I think the high pressure was in the FEL hoses not the tractor hoses so rocking the controls on the tractor had no effect. Since I am not in business with the tractor I could afford to wait rather than take drastic action . . . . Part of that was posting to the forum and that saved getting brutal with tools and lots of force when I didin't know what the problem was.

Rock the controls just prior to removal, that releases the pressure. You're correct, once disconnected, the controls won't help.

Correct & always best practices (make sure the engine is off first). But that often doesn't work. The flat face connectors on my SSQA snow plow & post hole digger suck. If they are warm at all (sun on black hoses, warm day, etc.) Its difficult if not impossible to to hook them up without cracking a fitting due to pressure in the lines. Doesn't matter how diligent I am when unhooking them.
I actually have a spare set of cheap flat face QDs I just got along with some small ball valves. Will plug the QD into the impliment & leave the valve closed when I unhitch. Open valve to bleed pressure, remove QD, then hitch up.

Seems to me that it was in a owners manual of one of the tractors i had. Not being pressurized also reduces fluid leakage to just a drop or two.

It's a pretty common problem. I use a two inch 3/8" extension. Put it in the female end, wrap a rag around it, and lightly tap it once or twice with a hammer. Problem solved.
