Hi all, I was Googling around to see if anyone was growing Canola in North Bay area (I'm in BC). For over a decade now, our company, PlantDrive (PlantDrive.ca) has supplied conversion kits and components to run diesel engines on vegetable oil. We also have sold some Hybren oil seed presses for small scale oil pressing. And I just bought myself a Kubota F2400, to convert. Anyway, I was in Denmark in 2007 and visited the Hybren operation, and the owner had a setup for his home and shop that worked as follows:
- Canola seed in large hopper, supplying the little Hybren 6 press (on our site).
- Oil collected in drums for settling and filtering and use in car and tractor, etc. in an "SVO" (straight vegetable oil, also called "PPO" (Pure Plant Oil) conversion....NOT "biodiesel").
- the presscake that remains is about 2/3rds of the original seed.
- this emerged from the press as pellet very much like wood stove pellets.
- these were fed directly to a boiler
- hot water fed to house and shop, radiant.
- the entire thing started and stopped via the thermostat in the house.
:)
