Re: Can\'t Believe the Difference!
I am a firm believer in synthetic oils. My only experience has been with Mobil 1 though. It's worked so well for me that I never felt like trying something else. It's the first oil that I actually could see a difference in the operation of my vehicles.
I first tried it in my Triumph motorcycle that had one cylinder worn out and was oiling a plug if I didn't run it hard. Since I don't run it hard anymore, I was fouling that plug often. Since I was at the limit of overbore, I obtained a new barrel and pistons. I experimented with the Mobil 1 and found out quite by accident that my plug fowling problem went away for 5 more years till I finally did the top end job.
Put it in a car with 75K miles that used a bit of oil. The longer I ran that car, the less oil it used! Got rid of it at 145K miles.
Put it in my Co. Aerostar van that used a qt. every 1500 miles. Till I got rid of that vehicle at 195K it used about 1 qt. to 7000 miles.
Did I say that I only changed my oil annually? The exhaust pipes were always tan and I also got about 1-2 miles/gal extra fuel consumption. The Ford dealer once changed my oil and my fuel consumption dropped till I got the Mobil 1 back in there.
The valve covers on all motors had no sludge and the mechanics marveled how clean the Aerostar engine was.
I buy the Mobil 1 at WallMart as it generally costs much less there. I figure that my savings in frequent changes more than pays for the stuff. Plus I really don't get my rocks off changing oil. This is better for the environment with less used oil to dispose of.
I have been using Mobil 1 for over 20 years now. Other oils may be just as good or better. I'm just relating my experiences to y'all.
Good luck out there. And Oh yes 3RRL, how many hours did you have on your Kama before you made the switch? I have never used Mobil 1 before the engine was fully broken in with conventional oil.
