cant detach my rotary mower

The PTO connection for my rotary mower has spring loaded little tab that holds the drive shaft on my Massey Furgs PTO. Same as my post hole digger. As I look at it, i simply turn clockwise to release the tab and pull the shaft off. I've done this fifty times.

Some debris or something must have got in there because when I went to pull it off...I was not able to turn it at all. Because I can't turn it the tab stays put and i can't pull it off.

I thought maybe was turning the wrong way, but double checked on the post hole digger. The tab springs in and out just fine on that.

I need to figure a way to get that thing off, or how to disassemble the thing or get super strong in a day.

Any ideas?? thanks!

I would try putting a pipe wrench on it or a big pear of channel locks on it to turn it. If you get it off clean it, and oil it up real good.

hit it with some spray lube penetrant oil... more is better.. then tap on it with a lil hammer.. like a tack hammer.. all around it.. more oil.. time patience... then try it

Thanks guys! I'm a little afraid to take a heavy wrench to it as it is made of plastic. I thought I'd just crush the thing. Maybe I'll make that my last resort.

I like the spray lube idea. You think just some common wd-40 all over the place? or would silicon type spray lube do better?

wd 40 is for removing stickers.. silicone spray is to make reels wind better.

a penetrant oil like pb blaster, kroil from kano labs.. or.. if nothing else is available.. liquid wrench.

heck.. diesel is bettrer than wd-40 or silicone spray for a penetrant.

I just free'd up a stuck 3- ball sliding pto coupler on a pto pump on my 3pt backhoe that the prev owner let rust up.

pb oil and tapping got it free.. then I cleaned the rust up with naval jelly.. good as new after greasing now..

Well the store is a good 25 miles from me. I found something called Tri-Flow high performance penetrating lubricant. I guess I'll try that. I mean it says penetrating and high performance...that sounds better than sticker remover.

Do you have air try that see if it knocks whats in there loose so you can turn the collar also try the penetrating oil but I do not think it is rusted good luck

FANTASTIC! Soundguy I am forever in your debt. That penetrating lube worked like a dream. Practically did the job without me. I spent an hour trying to muscle that thing off and I'm totally spent. penetrating lube and 1 minute was all i needed. Classic case of work smarter not harder, lol.
