these blades turn cw when viewed from bottom. I would think they have to be left hand thread in order to self tighten right?

Probably not. I have a Woods PRD 8400 (3 blades). They're the regular righty-tighty lefty-loosy. 80 ft lbs of torque to tighten is more than enough to keep them on. Your RM 59 should be normal threads.

Wait a minute...
I think yours is normal right hand but I recall a model from maybe 10-15 years ago that wasn't.
Call a dealer and double-check or look up an owner's manual on the net. Guys here know how to do that
When I change my blades I use some penetrating oil and an impact gun.

Woods PRD8400 Mower parts diagrams

Item #22 appears to be a standard 1/2 x 1 1/2 in Grade 5 bolt. Should be turning the bolts left to loosen.

The blade does appear to turn clockwise, looking at the blade bolts. This could be attributed to single gear reduction. Most belt turned blades turn counter clockwise looking at the bottom.

RM's have LH threads on the blades

Unless it's one of those oddball older ones made for the backwards pto. I've had one of each.

someone else, in same boat i was!

i tried multi things, from cheater bars, to torch (heating nut up, impact wrench, penetrating oil, etc....) and the nut would not budge. i finally gave up and hauled it to my local parts place. they tried an impact wrench with more guts than i had, (no good), they tried a smaller breaker bar. i think it started to bend, then they broke out a high dollar 6 or 8 foot breaker bar. and put the guy with the muscles on it and another guy holding large block of wood to keep blade from spinning. and finally the nut on each blade came loose.

thank fully, i was getting new blades. so they didn't charge me anything. but still. the nuts should have not required that much to loosen up.

Great advice.
It makes a big difference on difficult stuff and is vital if the metals are even slightly dissimilar.
