For my need and probably most people having a 3/4" ratchet is not essential and can get around it easy.

But sure does come in handy.. I've use dmine a few times onmy 10' and 15' mowers..

If I operated the size of the fleet:eek: that you have then for sure would invest in it. On my 3 cars I never need 3/4'' ratchet and with my little ole 1700 and a few not so big implements I can manage. That is not to say I refuse a good offer to own a 3/4" ratchet if presented. I really believe you have to have the right tool for the right job, and if you are a do it yourselfer it pretty much pays for itself in a hurry.:)

I actually feel bad for what I paid for these overseas tools. the 1/2" set was 20$, and the 3/4" set was 24$

The first nut I took off with the 3/4 set paid for itself then some!

Guys that talk themselves into doing without a 3/4 drive set don't know what they are missing. There is a lengthy thread on exactly this topic elsewhere. It isn't necessary to spend big bucks for a premuim set for occaisional use.

Well..... enough said..... I'm sold:eek: . Next time I'm in Harbor Freight I'll pick their genuine Chinese (with American Specs) Pittsburgh brand 3/4" complete set with metal carrying case for $39.95:D
It's worth the bragging right you know.:)

JC,
My set is 20yrs old. I have used a big cheater bar on them no problem. Also many uses with my IR 1100ftlb impact. Same story. My set is inch sizes. I find with the large sizes exact fit is unimportant so my 1/2 metric set to 34mm takes me big enuf to make the jump. Hope you have equal fortune.:)

Thanks very much for the thoughtful replies. Its a great community here:) and very helpful for a new tractor owner like me. I did pick up a 26mm socket and breaker bar at a local store since I needed a 1/2 breaker bar anyway. I will grab the 3/4 set in the near future. I used a 4' pipe and with my 270 lbs was able to turn the lugs. I used some PB blaster penetrant to assist. After a few turns it started to loosen, so I used my impact gun to further things along. Unfortunately the bolt just spun in the hub so i guess the threads are stripped  I quit there since my reason for removing the tires was to paint the rims front and back. I painted the outsides and called it a day. I will soak the lugs from hub and try again in the future. I may have to use heat for the assist.

The the studs are drive in style, and they now spin, the new replacement studs will as well. Depending ont he location.. you might have to add a blip of weld just to tack the stud in fromthe back side, if it is a place that is easy to get to so that you can take a file or grinder wheel to it to get it off in the future.

Depending onthe thickness of the hub.. once you get the stud out.. sometimes you can 'peen' the hole with a ballpeen hamer and shring it a bit.. also.. once the stud is driven in after peening, you might be able to stake it with a center punch.. may hold. may not.. If there is any way to stabilize the rear of the stud.. I'd do so instead of letting it spin more and wallow the hole out.

I have seen more damage to lug nuts and studs done by impact guns than everything else combined.

I ditto that. I invested in a set of pneumatic ratchets and impact guns but hardly ever use it. On stubborn nut and bolts, I just want to take them out without damage... doing in 10 quick seconds with an impact gun buys me nothing.... I rather take 5 minutes and get it done right once so I will not be ending up spending much time and $$$ to repair the 10 second work.
