That seems to be the key, the pictures I tried were previously uploaded and I was re-uploading them. The same picture with a different filename uploaded (below), a different picture (or the same picture after editing) did not.

I will ask about this now that I can replicate it.

there was a thread a while back, about switching themes... does anyone have that link? wondering if it might be a theme issue. or just getting around issue temporally....
