Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has made something for a car hauler trailer that would allow you to haul 2 rows of round bales and that propped the bales up over the fenders.
Thanks

We just set one between fenders and 2 side by side front and rear of the fenders

Does your trailer have stake pockets, if so wouldn't be hard to use some steel tube or something that would slip into the stake pockets on each side of the fender and keep the bail off them.

How long and wide is your trailer?

Mine is 16' with 2' dovetail for a total length of 18' and 6'-10" wide.

Yes, it does have 6 side pockets/hook areas per side.

I figured it wouldn't take too much to come up with something. I use 5' bales and have only been hauling 3 at a time for safety sake.

I live in Georgia and it seems that none of the hay people make 5' round bales. DOT was hassling them about wide loads. Now everyone is doing 4'x6' rounds which keep the DOT from fussing.

I have just loaded them on top of the fenders. Eight bales at a time. More secure IMO than just loading one between the fenders.

No problem with wide loads for farm operations in Ohio AFAIK. If in doubt, slap a SMV triangle on the back but I've never done that.

A single row on a "car" trailer will usually be plenty of load.

YMMV. Making 10 2-hour trips instead of five? Especially when you want to get it out of the field before it rains?

3 1600 pound bales is all you can haul on a typical 7k GVWR "car" hauler weight wise. 6 would be way over weight.

Anything short of a semi hauling hay 2 hours is a waste of time IMO.

Each bale is subject to different weghts. I buy 5x5's and they run about 1200 lbs each.
