Car/house insurance

For those of you thinking about Amica, they offered me an initial low rate, then jacked it up by 20% for each of the following two years.

Switched to Liberty Mutual, and they're doing the same thing.

I live in wildfire country (just had a very close call this week) and a lot of the major companies like AAA, Nationwide, State Farm, Farmers, Allstate, Geico, Progressive won't write a policy here. So I'm all ears hoping to hear of new companies I can try when I shop around in a month or so.

You are calling captive agents. Agents that sell insurance from 1 company. Ie, allstate, nationwyde, etc,.
Try calling an independent in your area. An independent agent can sell insurance form several different companies

With 4 policies comparing the total as a whole, erie was the cheapest apples to apples. IF I wanted 4 different carriers, like allstate for autos, erie for business, auto-owners for home, and ohio mutual for comm truck.....taking the cheapest of each itemized quote....I could have saved ~$10-$15 per month. .

I can appreciate you not wanting the hassle of paying 4 different companies. But I just couldn't get over giving away $120.00-$180.00 per year just for the ease of paying 1 company.
I never did escrow either. I always paid my insurance ,and my property taxes myself

I probably waste more money than that on dumber things over the course of a year. $10/ month.....not a big deal.

And lime I said, it was more reasons than just a single bill. I do t have to worry about 4 different companies arguing with each other about who should pay a claim if I have to file one. And I dont have to worry about who to call if I need to make one.

I spend way more than that buying 99 cent drinks at the gas station.

We had a great independent broker for decades... one by one the lines we had were being non-renewed... no claim history.

At one time auto was pulling out of California and then it was Homeowners no longer writing... business line was the first to go.

I was not looking to switch but figured the California AAA was not going to leave and that is where we ended up for auto/home and Farmers...

Well, I just sold my business ,and went into the world of retirement. I'm now on that fixed income I always hear seniors talk about. I'm going to have to watch where all my pennies go now !

For decades I always kept vehicle insurance, health insurance and home slash business insurance separate. I just felt it wasn't in my best interest to throw all to one agent.
Finally I relented, put it all in the same out fit, a brokerage in town that I had been using for DECADES. I don't regret it. Interesting sidebar, when you pay in person instead of sending checks off to Oshkosh, you become a face with your number, and you are on first name basis and part of the family.

I had one major claim to a building and their response was lame and tardy at first because of someone's golf game. I came down hard on them and raised eyebrows about the policy being about me in a time of need. Inside of forty eight hours I had everyone apologizing and giving me a carte blanche to have everything I needed and wanted for restitution. It was great after a bad start.

My advice after many many years.... If you can't afford the hit, make the premiums and be glad you can. I also say get replacement insurance and not actual cash value of the item. That shed outback you take for granted with all your implements in it, yeah that one, will cost you a fortune to replace.
