Darn, didn't really think about it that much. Guess the radio, music and advertising world that I live in too control of my fingers.

Good luck on an improvised structure.

If you look thru the archived threads you will see that there are a few here that will smack you with a stick on this subject.. and feel that anything you erect has to be suitable to live in, and cost 3x as much as it needs to ( to just store material )... etc.

Ya know a $200 tent can easily cause a few thousand dollars in damages. If it blows over on your car...then across and hits a neighbors picture window... It's still the owners fault.

I currently have 2 (yes 2). I learned alot after the first one blew away. 1. Do not trust the anchors that is sent with the carport. Put in some concrete piers below the frost line and then using some high quality cement anchors to secure the framework to it. 2. During periods of high winds check it on a regular basis and tighten up any loose connections.

By following these rules I have not had an further problems. I do get a lot of wind off of Lake Erie and being secured to the cement I have not had any more issues of flying tents.

The first tent that I purchased was a "cheap" one from BJ's (Like Costco), That is the one that took flying lessons. I was able to reuse it by redesigning the framework to eliminate the bent pieces of pipe and making the tent smaller. There is a tear in the side that gets the most wind but has not expanded after being reassembled for about 8 months now.

The second one has had the cover replaced due to a manufacturing defect at no cost to me. Besides that there has been no problems with that one.

Would I do it again? Yes.

Yep.. those are just mounted sails. Course.. in 120mph winds... so is the tin on a barn roof....

I see alot of people hocking those plastic pipe framed shelters.. can't imagine that is any good at all.. Would be cheaper to sink some 4x4's and frame up a roof out of 2x4 purloins and tin.. etc... Kinda like a hay shade... ( for horses and cows.. )

I'm sure they will serve some sort of purpose for some people but personally I don't think they are worth the money. They just don't hold up to the elements as tin or wood structures do. It's your call. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
