Kubota L3800HST
I have a 2015 equipment trailer in Mass. It's 20' long, bumper pull, wood deck, no dovetail, fold down ramps.
It tows good. 15" tires with 6 lug rims.
Its rated at almost 10k. About 9990 lbs, iirc. I only tow my kubota L3800 on it.
I went 20' because of a bush hog. But I leave that at my property and have never had to trailer it.
I am thinking of downsizing / trading it in on a 16' car trailer. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on car trailers.

I don't know where you are located but in my opinion I would look at a local manufacturer. That way if you ever need a repair, part or warranty repair there they are. I don't weld so that was my big selling or buying point. If you go to 16' are you willing to go to a 7k trailer? I don't remember seeing 16's rated at 10k, that didn't start until 18'.

The OP's post states that he is in Mass.
I have lived in Mass. off and on for much of my life.
I am not aware of any "local" trailer manufacturers in Mass.
There are trailer sellers though.

I was thinking 7k. My current trailer is a currahee. I bought it in SC. Probably looking more local this time. Either a car trailer or tilt bed.

I've been thinking about a car hauler. I was looking at 10K trailers, but we have aluminum 7K trailers available. For a little more cost you get much of the 10K trailer capacity and the advantages of an aluminum trailer. You might want to look around for that. Of course, this area of the midwest is trailer heaven.

I have an 18' car hauler with steel diamond plate deck. It's rated at 7K, weighs 1500#, so usable load of 5500#. I wouldn't want anything shorter. My 93 suburban is 18.25 feet long, to give you some perspective. It also weighs close to 5500# with a full tank of gas.

There are a lot of trailer companies in midwest and down south. Much better prices and service.

I am towing with a GMC 2500HD. My trailer use is primarily just my kubota tractor.

You might want to contact Tim's RV in Erving,Ma. 413-522-3410
I bought (ordered) my 20 ft.14K equipment trailer from them.
Great people, and a good price.

If you have a loader I wouldn't go shorter than 18'.

I have an 18' Anderson open center car trailer. My JD4310 was too narrow to fit on it in stock form. I put the front wheels in the wide setting and bought a pair of rear wheels and tires with a greater offset. It fits fine now but a flat deck would be more useful than the open center. I may one day weld diamond plate in the open center. Other than that the Anderson brand trailer has been a joy to tow.

I bought it in 2006 to haul my track car on and it's been all over the SE with very little maintenance. I've had had to repair a brake wire on it once after the dealer did a crappy repair job on it. I cut the ramp holders out from under the back because they would drag going through dips. I had to weld that steel back in flush to keep the design strength. I switched to 6' aluminum ramps and just throw them in the back of the truck. I replaced all 5 tires at 9 years. Just pulled a drum the other day to look at the brake shoes and they are still looking okay. Hit the easy lube fittings and check for wheel bearing play and noise a couple times a year. The rubber seals on easy lube hubs rot out fairly often so I have to replace those. Trailer weights 1200 lbs so I have a load capacity of around 5800.

If I were buying today I would go flat bed with 5200 lb axles. It wouldn't weigh much more and would have a little more buffer on the capacity even though I don't need it.
