GASTON, Ore. A tractor ended up on top of a car Wednesday night, trapping two people inside, authorities said.

"Washington County Sheriff's Office says two tractors pulling trailers were traveling southbound on Front Street when a 2006 Pontiac Solstice with two people inside traveling northbound clipped the trailer of the first tractor."

Combines? Trailers?

Please note that while both stories listed the make and model of the car, neither story listed the makes and models of the tractors. While TBN members would recognize that they are JD tractors, I suspect that few of us would be able to identify the model numbers from the photos. This is yet another sad commentary on the state of what passes for journalism these days.

"Two tractors pulling combine trailers were southbound on Highway 47 (Front Street) when a northbound sedan clipped the combine trailer behind the first tractor and then collided with the second tractor near Main Street shortly after 8:30 p.m., according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

What's a combine trailer? It's hard to tell, but that may be a loaded combine header trailer in the photo above.

Could be, although how the reporters came up with combine, trailer, and combine trailer is baffling.

Last October was in accident with a pickup. I was in a no passing zone making left hand turn as the pickup went to run around my left. We have a lot of farming in our county and the highway patrol office who investigate the accident asked me what happened and wanted to see what the lights on my tractor looked like. By law it was a no passing zone due to a curve and hill in the road. Yet is was the fault of the tractor that was in the road for the pickup breaking the law had the right of way. He said we all know a tractor only runs as max 15 mph and he followed you around the curve and so and so both he was wrong on as I told him my tractor runs 21.5 mph on the road and I did come around that curve at least an hour earlier. He was stunned but still gave me the ticket and nothing to the pickup driver. Was able to get the ticket dismissed but just telling how ignorant much of the law enforcement are with tractors and such. Oh office did admit he had to call to get advice on how to write the ticket. He was a 2 or 3 year veteran.
