A couple of containers and a regular sized one of those carports and you have enough head room that you can work on the back hoe or FEL without worrying about hitting the roof!

I was watching one of the home shows...with Bob Vila down in the Miami area...I believe...and they were showcasing a company that is using them now as modular housing. The company just brings each room, (container) and they are bolted and welded together. Plumbing, insulation, windows, wiring all premade. These things are just like the prefab houses you can buy and are put together with a crane. They said that there is a glut of the containers over here since America is importing everything. It is cheaper to leave them here than send them back empty. They are hurricane proof, look somewhat like a regular house. A lot better than some mobile homes. No problem with termites, either.

My 2 cents/ It depends on what you wish to store in container. I have recently remodeled my house and used one to store furniture and house items.BIG mistake. It had a pinhole leak somewhere ,water got in and damaged some mahongay furniture/extremly hot/no ventilation. I called and complained to deaf ears/after they removed from yard- they never sent me a bill/guess they realized there was a problem ? That's life I guess, what works for some will not work for others/ Ca vet Emptor ?[buyer beware]

Redrocker,
That black bar across the front of the doors isn't standard, so what is it for? Looks like a guardrail in case you get wild with the tractor, lol!!

That's a big piece of channel that covers 2 of the locks to make it just a little harder to break in to.

That's a great idea. I've looked at the locking deadbolt mechanisms on those containers and there is not much that the locks hold. That channel is the best thing I have seen to slow someone down from breaking in.

I've had a 40'x8x8 for about 10 yrs. Mine is resting on railroad ties (pick good straight heavy ones(no termites).
They make good fast secure storage, but the main drawback is you have to leave a path through it, or install multiple doors for easy access.
I also use the circular Master locks that are hard to reach the shank, but they are held at an angle where they hold water and if not regularly drained and lubed will rust shut.

One thing I am responsible for setting up leases on containers, and setting residual values on the units. I don't have a lot of experience, but have tapped into industry contact that know these things inside and out. I have always been told to watch out for the Refridgerated units, a life of condensation causes a lot more corrosion. I would always look for the off size, There were some 44'ers out there, if you can find them they might be cheaper than say a 20' or 40' because they are unique and don't fit a standard trailer chassis.

One thing I've noticed is the 40's are usually cheaper than the 20's around here. I suppose either there is less demand for them because of space or there aren't as many of them made.
I've been eying some almost new 1 trip 20's available in Savannah GA but transport is a problem. Where I need it is some 300 miles from there. The cost to have it delivered would be outrageous. I've considered picking one up on my car trailer, the weight is within limits but securing it properly is a puzzle.....
