It seems that Agri-Supply is the sole Caroni importer, distributor, dealer in the US. Is this true ?

If so, do they have monopolostic pricing, or is there flexibility ?
They list prices on their web site, but can you haggle in the retail stores ?
Any experiences dealing with them would be appreciated.

I know absolutely NOTHING about Caroni, or Agri-Supply's status as their importer. However, I've done a lot of business with them in the past. There is a good bit of "old blood" left at a few stores who are extremely helpful. Agri-Supply is changing their marketing by all appearances. Once upon a time, they catered to the small farmer (as in small-scale production agriculture). Nowdays it seems they're after the acreage owner/hobby farmer/home-owner more so than in years past. They're still a class act. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I only have experience ordering from Agri-Supply by phone, not in their stores. But on the few items I've checked, Agri-Supply's prices have been significantly lower than other sources. They seem to offer good products at a modest markup. Recent examples are blades for the RM-990 finish mower, and a complete pto shaft assembly - both were roughly 35% lower than other sources. They seem like an "old school" supplier - where supporting the farmer at reasonable profit is the mission. Other places (like TSC?) seem to be more oriented to retail marketing and higher markups.

I shop Agri-Supply but never tried to get a discount. If it's a big ticket item, it wouldn't hurt to ask. My friends' dad did this in Sear's "Will you take $xxx.xx for this lawn mower?" Be prepared to walk away if they say no. BTW, he got it for the lower price.

Mornin Reg,
I have dealt with Agri-Supply many times over the phone using their catologe. Very good people to deal with ! I was going to by a 6ft Caroni finish mower for the tractor, I ended up buying a ZTR. But I have heard good things about Caroni !

Before I could even begin to comment on the question at hand
I'm gonna have to first go look up what 'monopolostic' means.

Monopolostic, would mean one price thru-out the system.

I used it to mean one fixed price (for any particular item) throughout.
No matter, I think I now know how I will proceed.

Hi Reg,

Have only ordered a couple things through Agri-Supply (slip clutch & KK tiller), and they were great to deal with. Tiller came all greased & topped off with gear oil, packed well for the journey... the PTO shaft sent with it was too short (more than likely switched on the lot--was cut down!), but just let them know & they sent a ticket to pick up the wrong one & had the correct one there within the week.

Because of the "no questions asked" service I got, I'll always look there first from now on... to say they seem to have a strong focus on customer service does them a disservice ... they treat you as you expect someone treats a lifelong customer--I think they'll pick up many doing just that.
