Case IH 1140 (first tractor ever)
I have been recently been looking at a couple of old Ford tractors and on my way out of our area today there sits a Case 1140 compact tractor. It has a big "belly mower" (is that the right term?) under it and the 3 point setup in the rear. Power steering, and etc. It looks real good, and runs real good. I have been doing searches (including here) for information on the tractor and have come up dry. I am also trying to find an image of it so that I can make sure it looks like it is supposed to. The asking price is $5000 and he seems pretty firm. I am wondering if it will take things like a frontend loader, post hole digger, and the like?

Have any of yall had any experience with this machine? Is it something I should stay away from? Go ahead and get the Ford?

I was looking at a 9n but have been warned off of it and I am currently looking at the 8n. I like the 8n but the Case is newer, has hydraulics, a belly mower, it currently "lives" on our street now. The case is a lot more money ($5000) but he made the mistake of telling me to "make him an offer". I have deduced the fact that Case made 3 models of the 1100 series. The 1120, 1130, 1140 with the 1140 being the biggest of the three. I found a Case IH 1120 for sale in Kentucky for $6500 with no belly mower. This one looks good and runs good. The 1100 series came with Mitsubishi diesel engines (3cyl 27 horsepower for the 1140) All the lights and guages work. I am confused by the owners statement that it is a 93 when the only ones that I can find are 91's. What scares me is that the tractor may have only been made for one year and I am wondering why. Nothing on Case's official website. They do have compact tractors but they are Farmall's. Is that the same thing?

Ok, I made him an offer of $3500. I know the man so I know how this is gonna go. He's gonna come back with $4500, I'm gonna balk and wait on the $3500. After a day or two if he don't accept I will offer $4000 and drive the tractor down the street to my house. Then I am going straight to TSC and buying a 30" dirt bucket and a post hole digger that runs off of the PTO.

You will be alot better off with the case than the ford tractors.
It has independant PTO with is alot better for PTO implements. It has 23 PTO hp. And is a 91' the 1100 models were only made for one year that I could find. It has powersteering and a diesel engine. You also said it has a mid mount mower which I assume is a finish mower to mow the lawn. If you do alot of dirt work I would get use to taking it off and on as you could do some damage to it.

Thank Yall both for your responses. I went ahead and sealed the deal on it for $4000. Gonna go to Tractor Supply Company and get the dirtbucket, and maybe the post hole attachment

I purchased an 1140 less than a year old (Demo) It has never been back to the dealer. It has a Woods 6 foot mower under it and has mowed over a 1000 acres with no problem. It will accept any class 1 3 point attachment. We have a wood chipper that will chip 6 inch limbs and it handles it well. I have used a post hole digger, 6 foot grader blade, a landscape rake, sprayer, cultivator, custom made fork lift, and other tools and it works well. I understand that this tractor was made for only a short time (1 year?) but Cub Cadet built it for some time and most parts (all?) will work. I am pleased with the tractor but is is getting a little tired but so am I.
