Have a Case 480D Diesel Backhoe that will not start without help.
Let me start by saying that the engine had very old gas(2+yrs old) in it and it would not start. I hit it with a very light spray of starting fluid and it started right up. Ran without a problem but when cut off, it would not start back up. I read that you should never use starting fluid with diesels so I need to fix it so that I do not need to use starting fluid. I drained the old gas out and changed the fuel filters(both). Tried to crank it again with fresh diesel and no luck.
What's next? I have heard some engines get dependent on starting fluid so I cannot continue to use it as a solution(used maybe 5 times now).
Like I said, when cranked, it runs great with very little smoke. No other problems
