I have a 1987 case 580k backhoe and the transmission shifter (1-4) has seemed to pull out of the rail somehow and now is currently stuck in 1st gear. the shifter is loose (can do circles with it) my question is how would I remove the top trans case to get to the rails/forks without being able to get it out of gear?

-thanks

I'm not sure if this is the same transaxle in this exploded view as you'rs, but what Case shows as the one for the 580K. Looks like if you remove the floor pan, you can get to the shifting mechanism, and top of the transaxle case.

Just wondering if it's the shifting mechanism, rather than the internals. Maybe a broken/lost pin, or yoke..??

Here is the link to the exploded view of the shift mechanism: Official Case Construction Equipment Online Parts Store and Parts Look Up. Parts for Case Equipment and Construction Equipment. Parts Store for Case Wheel Loaders, Case Excavators, Case Skid Steers, Case Original Parts.

I was hoping it was the linkage but it was actually disconnected from the two shift forks themselves. I was able to pry the cover off and luckily only bent the 1st and 2nd gear fork slightly, was able to heat and bend back to place. then re-align the gears and forks and re-install
