Hi all. Been looking at a backhoe for myself for a while now and I think I've found a good deal. It's a 2000 case 580L Series 2. I've been yardstick finding info about it. I've seen anywhere from 73 to 86 HP. Anyone know some actual specs? Also any advise if I should jump on it or keep looking.

Thanks all!

I would think it is comparable to the 580N if I were to guess. What happened to the last unit you were considering? Have you decided on a configuration that is ideal for you?

Seems you were looking for a cab unit with extendahoe, 4 in 1 bucket and two lever control. How much weight can you handle?

I've called and emailed the dealer multiple times. No response. Really wants to sell the thing! Looking through to find a comparable I found this 580L Series 2 that is 6 years newer has the 4 in 1 extendahoe 4 wheel drive cab and 2 stick - exactly what I wanted for $7000 less then the 590 turbo I was looking at. I'm still a little skeptical that it could be a scam but they have responded quickly saying they are a private seller in a desperate need of cash. They say they have signed up for a google checkout program that they would bot be able to take the money until I either approve of the tractor or 5 days go by. Has everything I wanted newer and a lower price. Does have a couple thousand more hours though. Looks good condition. Just hope it's not a scam

This new machine is likely large enough for the work you intend to do, and is not as capable as the 590. I don't think you needed one as large as the 590 anyway, that said alot depends on working out the details and delivery.

Sorry I don't know enough to advise someone on the scam consideration but I do know that due diligence is important. How far away from you is this new machine? I would want to do the deal in person and see the paperwork. My thought would be to call my attorney to make sure I was protected, I help him with his tractor needs, he helps me with legal issues, we both try to keep something left to eat with.

I do understand what your saying about the 580 vs 590 but is it really that big of a difference in size. The main reason I was looking at the 590 instead of 580 before was it had everything that I wanted for less then a 580 so I haunt really compared them in sizes, just features and prices. As far as shipping goes to they said that they where moving from GA to OH and paid a company to have it done and then cancelled for some reason. The shipping company wouldn't reimburse them but if they moved it again they would take their money as part and with me living in MI it shouldn't be to bad. I just have too see if I can get rid of my current tractor.

I would think that if you are going shopping for a piece of equipment you need to have the funds immediately available, if this requires you to sell your CUT first then make that happen. I suspect no one is interested in waiting for you to sell your tractor first.

If you live in MI and the tractor you are considering is in GA that might be a tough deal to accomplish. Seems like lots of extra time, travel and expense, and no I wouldn't cough up for the machine sight unseen. Too risky for me.

Such a good deal though. Wants just $12,500 for it. For that price I could search forever. He's already paid to ship it to his new house in OH and the shipping company said they would just tack on the extra from there so it would only be about $150 for me. I'm just north of the border. As for testing they said they would give 5 days to make sure I was happy so I felt confident. So I feel good about that but I'm still not sold on the idea. $12500 on a 2000 backhoe is a steal though and hard to pass up.

Great so they are going to let you use it for 5 days BEFORE you pay them for it?

Seriously, it sounds too good to be true.:(You might be out $12,650 if they steal it.

Not sure if this is something similar to what I experienced, but I was looking at a CUT John Deere in Idaho that I found for sale. Contacted the owner, who said the tractor was actually in North Dakota, but he would ship the tractor to me and if it was not as described, he would take the tractor back. The money was to be held in an "escrow" account. I checked into the supposed "escrow" company (well known name), and they said this was something they didn't do and it was a definite scam. The company said once I put my money (if I had) in the account, the scam artist would take all the money from the account and I would have no recourse to get it back, unless he was caught. I provided them all my correspondence with the "scam" artist to help them catch them. Usually, if it is too good to be true, beware.

Yea. It's some google thing. I pay through google but they can't take the money out for 5 days and if I want a refund before then I can get one.

But whenever something seems to good to be true it usually is and that's what I'm kind of nervous about.
