Does anyone know where I can find a used shop manual for this machine, a new one is almost $450.00 so a little on the spendy side. Maybe an online where I could see the electrical diagram. I'm try to see why the battery is not being charged by the alternator. Is there a test point? I've got the cage up and the back open except the radiator and the alternator is still kind of buried.

The only alternative resource I have found for manuals for Case skidsteers has been ebay. Search for Case skid steer and see what you get. I recently purchased a NEW Parts Manual for an 1845C for $40, a $95 savings. I am still looking for a Service Manual which as you stated is much more expensive. Someone has one they will want to sell one day.

As for alternator problem I suspect these work much like an automobile alternator and you should be able to perform the same amp and volt output tests on them. A backyard test for a automobile alternator is to touch the bearing cover on the back of the alternator with a screwdriver while it running to see if it magnetized. If it is then the alternator is probably good. Unless your battery is new I'd suspect it first for not holding a charge.

Ric, Thanks for the feedback. I did test the output with an alternator tester. Much to my dismay, the only reading I got was bleed back from the battery. I did notice there is a BOSCH plugin module on the alternator and will take it in to have tested, probably as expensive as an alternator based on what I've seen fromthe BOSCH line. As for the service manual, I didn't see one on ebay this weekend.

Keep watching ebay, took me about 3 weeks to find the parts manual and its just what I was looking for. The service manual my take a little longer, but its bound to show up eventually, there was one for an 1840 a month ago. I've seen a lot of XT stuff for sale. Seems like there was Parts Manual for an 85XT two weeks ago listed with several other Case SS manuals.

Can't believe all the stuff I've bought off ebay by just being patient. Before the parts manual I bought a new never been used $1500 snowblower for less than half price two months ago. Works awesome. Always seems like a lot of SS stuff on there.

Hard to imagine you'd need an alternator already they should last awhile.
If someone was welding on the machine w/o unhooking the battery it can blow up some electrical parts.
Safest to ALWAYS unhook battery.
