Hi I am trying to rebuild a dump cylinder and am having a heck of atime trying to get the head off the ram this is a case front end loader about 1990 I have already removed the ring/ pin

If you have the cap off, just pull the shaft and piston out. To remove the piston, take the nut off the bottom, remember to use lock-tight to reinstall.
