Case Hay Rake

I recently purchased an old Case 100 ground driven hay rake. I have never used one before and I had one question. When turning a corner a clicking sound comes from one or both hubs. I was told that this is a spring loaded lever for the pinion and is necessary to keep the wheels turning evenly. When traveling straight there is no sound. Has anyone had any experience with this. Thanks.

Yes, what you have been told is correct, old International rakes were similar.
Any chance of a photo.
