Tractor
case-ih 695
I am needing some help with my tractor. Last year after I finished disking my food plot my tractor started running rough (it was very dusty). It would rev up then act like it would die then rev up and act like it would die with smoke (not dark) coming out the tailpipe. When I got it back to the barn I shut it off and tried to start again but it wouldnt start. It would turn over but wouldnt start. I cleaned the air filter and replaced the 2 fuel filters. I started up but continued to run rough. Eventually (weeks later) it started running normal again. Well, I started disking this past weekend and got about 3 laps in and it started doing the same thing. Im not too familiar with working with tractors but I am mechanically inclined and would like to fix this myself. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Any help would be appreciated.

When you changed the fuel filters did you have good fuel flow to the filters? I think you have trash in the bottom of your fuel tank restricting flow or a kinked fuel line. Check also that your fuel cap is venting. These are the 1st and cheap places to look for problems. I you still have the old fuel filters you could cut them open to see if they were really dirty. How do you refuel your tractor could you have gotten water or trash from that source?

I dont remember if there was good fuel flow when I changed my fuel filters and Im pretty sure I have already disposed of the old filters. My first thought was water in the fuel tank as well. If there is trash in the fuel lines, do you just blow them out with air? Thanks for the help.

Open up the lines at the base of the tanks to check the fuel.

Loosen the bleed screw on the first fuel filter. After a couple of turns the fuel should be squirting out. You could also remove the primary filter catch the fuel that comes out of the housing and see what it looks like. Should be a good flow of fuel there also.
Remove the fuel line that feeds the filters blow air back to the tank this should break up any debri that is blocking the fuel pickup area. This should make fuel flow to the filters better.
If you still don't have good fuel flow from the fuel line drain the tank. Remove the fuel lines and remove the fittings that stick up in the tank. I have seen these clog up before in my IH 684.

Check the shutoff valve on the fuel line at the tank. Be sure that it is wide open.
