Case International
Hello guys! I have a 1995 Case International 3220 that is giving me a bunch of trouble!! The other day I went to repair my trailer's dump tube that had been broken for a long time and as so the trailer's hydraulic cylinder was out of oil and probably filled with dirt. When the tube was fixed I started the tractor, dumped it once and stopped the tractor. A few minutes later I started the tractor again and I had no hydraulic function at all plus the hydraulic pump was making noise like the hydraulic oil was low. As I was in need of the tractor and only had engine oil I added a bit of engine oil to the hydraulic tank and the pump stopped making noise but still I had no hydraulic function. I've tried to change the hydraulic oil filter but no change!
The Spring is already here and I'm in need of the tractor so any help would be appreciated! I think it could be something clogged up inside the tractor, air inside the hydraulic system or only the engine oil being too thick for the hydraulic pump. Need help!!!
Also if anyone could tell me where is the hydraulic pump located and how to get the hydraulic fluid out, that would be nice.
Thanks!!

Can you guys at least tell me how can I prime the hydraulic pump with a compressor?

Where is the relief valve located? I've talked to some mechanics and they say that the hydraulic pump needs to be primed!! I can now say that I've opened every tube in the back of the tractor except two that go in the MCV. I've got no pressure at all! I was able to open a small cover that gave me the possibility to look inside the tractor near the differential, and as I started the tractor I saw the oil moving around. Does that mean anything?

So guys after a long time searching for a good mechanic and convincing him to come to my place he found something important. After removing the MCV I was able to check out the pump. The pump has a pinion on the end and that pinion is hold onto the pump shaft by a small pin. That small pin had sheared off causing the pump not to work at all. So the guy just opened the pump to check if everything was ok and now he took it so he could put some new seals onto it. Now I just have to wait till sunday or tuesday for him to come here again and assemble everything back. It was really hard to have a mechanic coming to my place because they all wanted me to take my tractor to their shop. I think that they only wanted to win some more money as I wouldn't be able to check what they would do to the tractor and they could say that they had done something they didn't. Anyway I'll be here to tell you all the results. It's very strange that the pin sheared off. If I knew it was that simply I would have done it myself. Thanks!!

I can understand a mechanic not coming to your tractor if they don't have a fully stocked service truck. Inevitably, there will be tools or parts left back at the shop as he gathers up what he thinks is needed for the job. I occasionally try to help friends out by going to them and it usually winds up biting me. I understand you wanting your tractor at home, but all things equal it will usually be more expensive for him to come to you.

geneP The problem was that I wasn't able to load the tractor to take it to their shop cause I had no brakes, steering or hydraulics. Anyway the mechanic was able to come and finish the job today. As soon as he put the pump on and added some fresh oil he just needed to take a little bit of air out of the system and everything came back on. I just tested it a little bit and it seems to have lost some hydraulic power, but it could be only some air bubbles in the hydraulic system. Hope I didn't damaged the pump, otherwise it'll be an expensive fix.

Now the only remaining question is if the oil is the right one... My father thinks that the new oil that the mechanic brought is too thick and that's what is causing the hydraulics to lift slowly, the steering to be hard and the pto not working as it should. I spent the whole day working with the tractor and the hotter it was the slower the hydraulics would act. Before this the tractor had a red oil in it, but the new one is golden with the spec Case MS-1207/1209 . Anyway I am now thinking whether the mechanic applied the repair kit on the pump, or if it exists at least. With the tractor cold the steering seems to work a lot better, but when it becomes hot you need to rev the engine a lot so you can steer.
I would appreciate any kind of answer!! Thanks!
