I never have any... use debit card for just about everything. Only cash I ever get is for about half the rent for my second house and my wifes tips from the 36 hole golf course next door. My only needs for cash is for hair cuts, a few local eats that take cash only and for tips for service. Years ago when stories begin on debit card, I thought to myself, I'll never do that. I think now that goverment would be more effective if CASH was used to manage the national debt and not electronic transfers. Nothing more effective than piles of cash.

Cash is King. No paper trail. Some things should be nobody else's business. One of those is what I spend every dime on...

I'm with 955er. Cash is king. I don't own a debit card, i don't own a Mac (or any other money machine card) card, and my wife and I keep one AmEx card for an emergency. Electronic transfers breed fraud. What I spend my money on is no one elses business.

We have one card for emergency.

I don't carry much cash. Don't have a use for it. Don't want to get robbed. We have a debit card. Exact same thing as a check book. You put money in your checking account before you buy something. If you don't have money, you can't buy things. Can't overdraw it. The card would get rejected if the funds weren't there. The only downfall is you still have to balance it like a checkbook.

Plus, cash is nasty. Old sweaty guys sit on it all day.

Started a written budget January 1 and started using cash only for all of my local transactions. I spend less than half of what I used to every month now. I'll never go back. Thanks Dave Ramsey!

I always laugh when I am selling something, for, say $500.00. Someone comes up and says they'll give me $400 CASH RIGHT NOW!!!

...... as opposed to what? CASH RIGHT LATER? Like I'm going to set up some kind of payment plan or something?

The only time I have found cash to promote a better deal was when a business charges more for credit card payments because they don't want to pay the processing charges to the credit card company. That, or when someone wants to do a shady deal by selling something off the books or the item is stolen. I won't buy stuff of questionable origin. ;)

I get $100 in cash from the ATM every 2-3 months. It goes towards breakfast, haircuts, and that is about it. Everything goes on the credit card. With the credit card I can see where the money is being spent and we get %1 back on all transactions. We get a very big check this time of the year. :D

With the credit card we have some insurance/warranty protection. Cash ya got nothing. Debit cards are bad since if anyone hacks it they have access to your bank accounts.

Right now my oldest kids has much more cash than I do.

Dan

Local Hardware Stores and such do not accept checks and will not accept large bills unless the manager can verify...

Credit/Debit seems to be standard operating practice where I am...

I don't use nearly as much cash as I did in the past. I use my credit cards and pay them in full at the end of the month so I have no interest charges.

The main reason I use them is for rebates. I get 5% back on all gas and office supplies. I get 3% back on all groceries, restaurants, pharmacies, entertainment and fast food and I get 1% back on everything else.

This adds up quickly and the rebate checks are like Christmas presents. :)

I feel much safer using credit cards than debit cards because more safety features are built in. I also get free and extended warranties on items I purchase with them and lots of other goodies like rental car insurance, payments for lost luggage and many other free travel services.

In most personal transactions, cash is always best.;)

let me tell ya about the down side of using cash, the wife and I decide this past Christmas to buy our selfs a LCD tv, we had been saving our change up over the past couple years, we turn the change in the Greenback, then went to our Local Best-B and pick out a TV, it was of a lesser quality but all we could afford, we ask the sales person if we were not satisfied could we bring it back in a timely mannor and get a refund? he said "absolutely" just keep our receipt and advised us that they have extend the return period to 30 days rather than the usual 15 day refund policy, we said Great! and made the purchase with "Cash" 4- 100 bills and some change... after the purchase I again ask the cashier about getting our money back if we were not happy,
again advised of yes!.... we kept the unit for 6 days and decided we did not like the 720 p and boxed it all up very carefully everything as was when got open it.... got it back into the best-B waited in line for 20 minutes only to be told that we will be receiving our return by check in the mail in 14 working days, I told them I didn't thin so! I specifically ask before I purchase the unit if I could get my money back? yada-yada-yada ..... the return person advised us that they could not due to us paying with cash for the amount over 250.00:thumbdown:.... Ha! no one told us that part of how it works.... But did tell us if we had of paid by credit our Debt account they could have transfer the funds directly back to our account in 24 hours,...
Well needless to say we got peeeed... and not done business with Best-B since and never will again.... and before leaving I told them that I had planed on saving a little more money and most likely would have came back and bought a better quality TV. but after finding out how deceitful they are I'll be buying it elsewhere,........ Oh! and then took it to the customer service dept. on line and bickered about their policy for 2 weeks until I got my "paper trail check" . Sorry! again the Deep-N-Dirt writes another Long one :D

Yep same here - pay in full every month and NEVER pay any interest charges but take advantage of the rebates. The idea of acquiring thousands in credit card debt is beyond my ability to comprehend.

I do have a debit card, but it's never been used for anything other than cash from an ATM. And I can't even remember the last time I did that. Except for very small purchases (like a half gallon of milk from Braum's for $1.39:laughing:) we use a credit card. We keep all receipts, reconcile everything and clip them together each month when I pay the bill (in full, of course) online each month. And since Sam's Club, Walmart, and Kroger's asks if you want cash back when you pay for something with the credit card, I don't have to pay ATM fees anymore. So not using cash is convenient and even a bit cheaper since we get a small rebate from the credit card company.

Pay at the pump is the biggest reason to use a card. I am not going to give a clerk a cash deposit to turn the pump on.

I pay cash for eggs from the neighbor and for donuts at the church on Sunday - that's all.

I pay cash for all the toys I don't want the mrs. to know how many $ I spent versus spendin on her!:D I see absolutely no value in a debit card, at least a thief has to physically try to take cash from me (I'm 6'2" 250 and carry) versus getting my card number and wiping me out before I know it. I use Credit cards for rebates too.

..............If the cash was still on the gold standard so they can't print more to spend more.

The Salvation Army said it isn't taking in as much in donations at Christmas because more people use cards instead of cash.

Downside of cards is that the gas companies have figured out that people don't resist higher prices with cards as much as if people paid cash. Plus, all statistics indicate you'll spend more using cards than if you shelled cash out of your wallet because it's immediately more real to see your wallet empty than to see your card balance.
