I may be getting a cat 0 tractor and wonder how to go about converting it to cat 1?

I'm guessing the quick and dirty way would be to change out the ends of the lower lift arms and toplink with cat 1 connectors via a smoke wrench / welder.

Or the right way, change out the lower arm hitch pins with cat 1 pins, and the same with the top link.. possibly new bracket for the top link to accomodate the larger pin., etc

I'm not sure about conversion parts availability for this tractor.. I'm going to look at it tomorrow, and it appears to be of the chinese variety, maker unknown at this time.

Comments / observations ?

Is the pto on a cat 0 tractor still the normal 1 3/8?

Thanks

Well specs for Cat 0 and cat 1 are the following:

Category 0
Top Link Pins are 5/8 inch in Diameter
Lift Arm Pins are 5/8 inch in Diameter
lower link width: 20"
lower link to upper: 12"

Category 1
Top Link Pins are 3/4 inch in Diameter or 7/8 inch also
Lift Arm Pins are 7/8 inch in Diameter
lower link width: 27"
lower link to upper: 18"

As far that the PTO goes that varies greatly. Some have the "standard" Cat 1 size/spline but some are specific to the OEM. Also note that some Cat 0 tractors have a 2000 rpm rear PTO. Most Cat 1 implelments will be too heavy for the Cat 0 lift but that also would vary depending on the tractor and what it is rated to lift.

Even if the tractor has a standard 1 3/8” PTO make sure it turns in the correct direction. I have seen comments on TBN about PTO’s that do not turn in the normal direction.

It would seem the hitch size is figured in the design to limit/allow certain sized implements to be utilized. It's like buying a 3/8" battery drill and replacing the chuck with a 1/2". It'll work, but it will also be easier to ask too much of it....................chim

I understand completely. If I do get the cat 0 tractor it will be only to push the maneuer pile over with a light 5' box, and to run the small broadcast seeder/ spreader... this thing is light enough for me to pick up...

It will keep me from having to remove the brushhog from my real tractor all the time...
