Can this be done? I am fairly new to this whole thing, but can you sleeve the holes in the cutter to use the smaller pins, or do I have to replace the arms on my hitch? Just FYI the tractor is a 1981 240 International Utility. Thanks.

I believe the Category 2 pins on the cutter may be bigger then the those "eyeball" holes on your 3 Point Hitch, since a Cat 2 hitch is normally on a larger tractor then most CUT's (Cat 1 HP ratings are up to 40 Drawbar horsepower, Cat 2 tractors go from 40 to 100 drawbar HP).

However, your local Tractor Supply should have bushings

What you need is one of these, to replace the pins in your mower. That way you can have Cat. 1 and still have Cat. 2.

Thanks for the reply. I am stuck at the fire station today and was just trying to figure out some way to make the bigger holes in the implement smaller holes!! A bushing will probably be the best bet. I am pretty sure the tractor has enough hp's to pull this cutter it has 52 hp but it does have the cat 1 hitch. Another question, any good or bad to a dale phillips cutter. It looks to be well built but it is $1600 dollars w/ a slip clutch. Again thanks for any help.

Jerry,

Would my local TSC have one of those, or do I need to go to a dealer?

Either buy the Cat 1 bushings or simply buy the Cat 1 pins and change them on the cutter. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I have never seen them at TSC, but it is a Speeco item. TSC can get Speeco. So, I think that they can order them.

Fireshawn,

I have the same issue with my 84" Cat II finish mower with Cat I tractor.

I found an unexpected way to fix this. A QuickHitch! I picked up a Cat I quickhitch from TSC and the lower arm pins it wants are about much larger than Cat I. They supply bushings with it to go over the Cat I to adapt for the hitch.

I visited my local machine shop buddy and have him machining a pair of pins that are smaller diameter for the Cat II mower on one side, then larger diameter for the hitch. About the same as someone posted above, but longer on the inside.

The width of Cat I and Cat II are different, too. I had him make the pins about 4"-5" longer so they extend to the inside of the existing pins.

I should be picking them up Friday afternoon. I will take a picture and give dimensions if anyone is interested.

I should mention that the top pin on the mower is on a loosely movable section about 8" or so. It came this way. This allows the pin to lower to the top hook on the quickhitch, but I have to find a way to hold it in the right place. I haven't worked a happy solution for this yet...

Anyway, hope this helps, or gives you some ideas. As I stated, I am in the middle of this and will post pics when it is done.
