Are you familiar with dozers? I'm im grimes county also and if you have any questions can give you another set of eyes or input.

Yes, I had a JD 650 in 1994, new. I don't want to buy new again so I'm looking at used. It will be for weekend work only.

Oh ok. Where at in the county are you?

I agree the sprocket looks worn. Thank for your input.
A full track job is not cheep. I really want a machine with 2000hrs, but this one popped up in my area set up like I want it.
At 2000 hrs there is a whole lot less worn out. I figured I could run it at least 1500hrs as is and do a full aftermarket track job.

I don't think I would count on 1500 hrs. in my part of the country, just judging by the sprocket I can see. Maybe I'm just hard on them.

They are segmented sprockets for easier replacement . They did not mention that in the report above, the wear on sprockets. Should I insist they change the sprockets? In a perfect world I would request a complete under carriage, but that is probably $12k

I'd say that depends on your "horse tradin' skills".
You can always come down in price, you can almost never go up. Same goes for requesting something extra. You might ask for a new under carriage, and be willing to settle for new sprockets. You never know what someone will do until you ask. A lot will depend on how long they've had it for sale, and what they've got in it too.

Was it a rental machine?

No, it was on a ranch. (Which may be worse because pm on some ranches is when it breaks)

The dealer is going to run it through their shop and check some more issues and then I will report back.
Shops down here are back logged and it takes longer than usual to get machines checked out and repaired.

Looks like a nice dozer.
Mine has the soft cab and sweeps.....I guess in Texas you probably want the full cab? And do you really need the rippers?
Just seems to be a bit high on the price with 3500 hrs a 35% undercarriage, in my opinion.
Do you have any steep terrain? No worse feeling on a dozer than backing out of a pit and spinning a sprocket......

I don't need the cab, but I want it for comfort and protection.
Don't really need the rippers, but they come with it. I don't think the PO used them either.
Equipment is currently bringing a premium down here.
The dealer that has it still has not put it in their shop to get a full assessment and punch list. They are that backed up. I'm not in a hurry so ill see how it plays out.
I would really rather have a D5 if for no other reason than resale.
