We have a bonded pair of hawks on our property plus a Large Barred owl.Yeah, probably a topic for another thread. One of several reasons we don't allow our cats outside.
Wife got me a trail camera for Christmas. We volunteered for a wildlife study put on by Purdue. Gotta log how many deer, fur bearers, squirrels/chipmunks, waterfowl and songbirds we see every day around our home. I thought we had a game trail along our bushes, but every night around 2am, it's a big fat gray cat making its rounds.![]()
Gypsy doesn't like the Barred owl when they get mouthyWe don't see or hear many owls anymore around here compared to when I was a kid. We had a dog that was scared of hoot owls. We'd let her out in the back yard at night, and if an owl hooted she'd be up leaning against the door in terror in the blink of an eye.![]()

We had one in the Oak Tree above the Camper really hooting away.
When I came inside, I found Gypsy tucked into the little 1ft space under the edge of the bed. She commando crawled into it![]()
Hawks attack birds here and often carry off some from the nest. Last year we saw a hawk do a series of swooping flyovers and a whole flock of adult birds surrounded it and forced it away. It was quite the show and the flock was very aggressive towards the bigger bird.We have a bonded pair of hawks on our property plus a Large Barred owl.
I do see the occasional kitty running around though. So the hawks don't seem to mess with the cats.
I saw one of the hawks flying off yesterday, out back carrying something faily decent in size. Figuring it got one of the many rabbits running around.
I've seen the hawks half heartedly pursuing small birds around the property as well.
They have plenty to eat around here
The Barred owl hangs out on a post quite often next to my mail box. There's a small water hole right there in the cow pasture. I figure it's easy Pickens for the owl when a critters comes in for water.
If we are leaving after dark or coming home. We'll go slow approaching our mail box and see him hanging out on his post![]()
