Any TBNers out there willing to share their experiences with Cateract Surgery?
I am not terribly concerned about the procedure and the doctor has performed the procedure 17,000 times with only 8 complications in the last 12 years but the delimma is, I have only one good eye as the other has be severely compromised by macular degeneration.
Dr assures me the outcome will be a major improvement, to which I replied, if I can again read a tape measure with out a magnifying glass and lay down a decent looking 6010 bead he will never have to worry about referrals.
I did have to explain the 6010 bead thing......

I have had a couple family members who have at cateract surgery and it really helped them. They had better eye sight after the procedure.

Good Luck,
Dan

I, too, had the surery and only one eye. A mis-struck nail lacerated the other one on the way by. Still have about 20% vision but it is functionally useless. No problems with the surgery, the only problem is choice of new lens. You have to decide if you want clear vision for distance or near work. Having worn glasses since I was 8, I chose distance so I didn't have to wear glasses. For near work a cheap pair of 'readers' does just fine ($1.00 at the Dollar Store). Actually better than the bifocals I had. As for the surgery itself, it is a simple 'Walk in - Walk out'. Procedure only takes minutes but that hold you for an hour or two after to make sure there are no complications.

I spent a bundle for the variable focus lens with the top surgeon in the area. No complications and it brought me back to 20-20. However, the range of focus in a disappointment. I now have a whole range of reading glasses, for computer, reading and close work. No complaints though - first time since I was 10 years old I've been able to go without glasses.

I had both eyes done. Dr scheduled surgery on each eye about a month apart. I had been wearing bifocals for almost 50 years and now have 20/20 vision without glasses. I do have to use readers for up close work such as reading, computers, etc. But feels good to not need glasses to see distance. Spent about 3 hours in the office for each eye. That included waiting room, surgery, and recovery time. The Dr. said he could implant a bifocal lens but my insurance only covered single script lenses so I opted to correct my vision for distance. If I had it to do over I'd pay the extra to get the bifocal type lens implants so I wouldn't need readers. Reading glasses are cheap so like the others I have several pair around so I don't have to carry them.

I had both eyes done last summer. Distance lens that are working fine. I had near glasses made with UV protection and safety glass set in my old frames for $80. Wife had hers a few years ago with multi-focal lens. Multifocals cause halos around lights, single vision doesn't. Same as others have said, surgery and recovery was a walk in the park for both of us.

My turn tomorrow, told 3-4 hours with op only taking about 20 minutes, my first time in surgery for 60 years and a bit apprehensive.

I had the surgery. I am a poster child for JH Whilmer Eye Institute. I have only one eye. The surgery was awesome unfortunately I had a retinal detachment shortly there after. That nessisitated draining the eye and extensive work reshaping the eye ball. I was blind for about 6 weeks while the eye filled back up with fluid. I have 20 15 vision...now...but am a little blurry up close. My doctors all said I was the one.

I understand your apprehension, because everyone has it.
I assure you, that you will be delighted with the result.
One eye at a time I assume?
