Cateract patients are among the few repeats... most have both eyes done... sometimes weeks apart and sometimes years apart.

Many options as far as lenses.

Some insurance covers everything, most do not cover premium lens.

I've been the guy with the numbing drops, setting LenSx femto laser parameters which can correct some other problems...

Good candates for the full program have vision that has stabilized.

If patients were not pleased we would not have repeats for the other eye.

Can be life changing... able to drive again, read, move back to their home no longer needing assisted living.

My dad had both eyes done last year at age 79. He called me afterwards and told me if I ever need cataract surgery to get it done and not wait like he did. He went from 20/200 to 20/20. He has picked up old hobbies and is doing more than I could have imagined. Hope your surgery goes as well as his did.

Good Luck with your surgery. I had glaucoma surgery in November by a good eye surgeon and I am glad I did. I was on 5 eye drop meds and they were not helping. I do not know what the difference in recovery time is but mine was well worth it, going blind in that eye was the option. Eyesight is important. Again, good luck, you will be fine.

My Opto says I (@ 76) might need cataract surgery. Might. But not yet. And as I've just got over the Cornea Scraping procedure, a real PITA!, I was glad to hear that. Friends have told us, as above, it (the cataracts) was a walk in the park. In comparison I hope so! For me the jury is still out.

When you need cataract surgery...get it.
Brushing your teeth is a more risky procedure!

Best thing I ever had done. Had worn glasses since I was a child. Now have 20/20 vision. Have to wear reading glasses but that is no big deal. I did have some protein buildup after about a year in both eyes, not an uncommon thing, that caused my vision to be a little cloudy. Doc used a laser to zap both eyes, 5 minute procedure, and I am back to clear vision.

YUP!
THAT is EXACTLY how it works!

Any TBNers out there willing to share their experiences with Cateract Surgery?
I am not terribly concerned about the procedure and the doctor has performed the procedure 17,000 times with only 8 complications in the last 12 years but the delimma is, I have only one good eye as the other has be severely compromised by macular degeneration.
Dr assures me the outcome will be a major improvement, to which I replied, if I can again read a tape measure with out a magnifying glass and lay down a decent looking 6010 bead he will never have to worry about referrals.
I did have to explain the 6010 bead thing......

I've perfect vision in my right eye, near and distance. Left one is good for distance, a tad blurry for reading. I had DSEK, which is a combination of cataract and cornea implant surgery. They just put a roll of donated cornea tissue into the same slit as they removed the cataract, use air or whatever to unroll the tissue and put it on the inside of the cornea. Of course, they put a lens in there to make your distance vision perfect. Can also fix reading vision for extra cost. I didn't pay for this reading part but got it in the right eye anyway.

The surgeries were spaced out about 3 months apart. At about 6 months after DSEK, I got what is called a "secondary cataract" in the 1st-done left eye. A couple laser shots fixed it. Then, 3 months after, got the same thing in the right eye. Local eye doc misdiagnosed it as "wrinkled cornea". I messed around with a little close eye doctor who only does eye exams with corrections, etc. Finally, he recommended I go to a cornea specialist. Did; he said no wrinkled cornea; scheduled me for a date with the laser. A couple shots in the right eye gave my vision back, which was virtually gone by that point. Now, it's perfect in that right eye.

I had that surgery done in 2011. No pain. Thirty minutes in the OR. Both eyes. Now 20-20. Single focus lenses. Surgeries done a month apart. Use reading glasses, but don't need them for computer work. Wear yellow-tinted, polarized, anti-reflection coated, UV-400 sunglasses outdoors to prevent UV degradation of the plastic implanted lenses.

Good luck

Well hate to be the one in 10,000 that didn't work out , but my wife went for cataract surgery three years ago , was told like everyone simple operation. Except it didn't go good, her eye film retracted and would not hold . She had 3 surgeries since then , and many types of eyedrops and steroid shots into eye. This year they admitted it was failure and her blindness in that eye ( only some periphery vision is left ) is permanent. Suffice it to say that she is not risking getting other eye done.
