As it is heading toward the close of the year and colder weatrher.. I started thinking about coolant today.. and then wondered if i need to get some of that anti-cavitatin addative for my Nh 7610s tractor. It's still got the stock stuff in it from the dealer.. but when i service it I was going to change it out....

What's the thinking / info on this? Does this engine need the anti-cavitation addative? If so.. where / who sells it? Nh? Napa? car quest? etc.

thanks

It absolutely needs it. NH, truck parts stores and probably auto parts retailers sell the additive as well as test strips to determine if you need more protection. Fleetguard markets heavy-duty antifreeze formulated with all the goodies already in place. Probably available at most of the same places.

I figure the stuff from the dealer already had it.. but if I put in new.. I'll have to add it.. unless I find an AF that has it in there.

thanks for the info. If I don't find it at my local napa.. I'll head to NH.

Chris; I buy mine at my local International truck garage. Just get the Fleetgaurd additive and test stips, and do it your self. According to my manual for my stroker, it should be checked/added every 15K miles. I would think on our little tractors, that every 6 months should be plenty. Just don't over do it. The DCA has properties that wipe out the waterpump seals in the stroker if it's overdone. Not sure about the tractor pump seals though. It's good to hear a NH Tech type say this, my local dealer had no clue what I was talking about. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Due to that fact, it's nice being able to turn wrenches if ya hafta! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Soundguy, I posted an article in "fuels and lubricants" that discusses this topic.

stroker; Your probably right where you live. But the IHC garage is only about 5 miles from me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Also, if there is a real problem, I believe Soundguy could even order direct from FleetGaurd. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I ended up going by the NH dealer, a 32oz bottle of FW-15?? coolant conditioner was 4.95+tax.

I was happy to get it at that price. Says to mix at 5%. I'll figure my coolant capacity from the manual, and then figure ounces.... and mix.

Dat'll do it Chris. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif That's a good price for that stuff too. It's about what I pay at the IHC garage. 5% isn't much, is it? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
