When mine was new, I made a similar device in both a narrow version, and I believe it was a 30" wide one, to do final grading.
While it obviously would move loose material fine, I found the machine lacked the weight, and reach, to be effective at moving packed soil efficiently in that way. Making it impractical for me.
If you wish to build a simple version to see if it works in your conditions, just bolt a piece of plate over the teeth, with threaded rod, through a piece of angle iron on the back side. You can use a welder to add some lips where you need them, that will keep it from shifting.

What you have done is standard commercial practice, just with out the hardened edge. Tidy job.
Do you have a lot of ditches? If so a specific "weed" bucket may be cost effective. Also I recommend you drill some air holes on the back of your tooth bucket as the air can come out the front under high preassure if the ditch is full of water.

Well... for a 1710, you have the CB65. I know the teeth are bolt-on and I don't know if that changes the dimensions of the bucket at that juncture. In my case, grabbing the teeth snugly is the strength of the attachment, as it uses the structure and strength of the teeth as its own. I will measure and diagram it. The space and shape of the teeth themselves would determine exact dimensions.
Now if I had a CB65 I might have designed an edge to bolt-on in place of the teeth, using the original designed attach points.
A suggestion for those of you with a 2 piece tooth,(tooth root welded into bucket and outer or wear tooth shell pinned on). Weld a plate onto the tooth shells(don't block the lock pins) and get a 2nd set of tooth shells for regular digging.
Note this will not work for the OP as his teeth are 1 piece welded into the bucket teeth, hence his excellent solution.

The county highway dept. has a special bucket for cleaning out side-ditches that is 4' wide, mounted on a CAT mini-excavator.
I watched the operator for about an hour and he was cleaning as fast as 2 dump truck drivers could keep up.
