I agree here. I use my hoe at about 2k....maybe 2500 if I really want the extra speed but I prefer to be just a hair slower and more accurate in my work rather than wrecking stuff.

This 140' trench was dug on my GC, with a 6" bucket, straight, exactly 2' deep, and a flat bottom, at full throttle.

I also loaded the spoils into a small garden dump cart, as I dug.

And believe me, it's more difficult to dig a clean, straight trench with a 6" bucket.

But, it is possible.

It took me a while to just not have a bucking bronco. Did a stump Saturday and was able to keep the tractor from drifting too much. It does take a lot pf practice to be smooth, but going slow and thinking through your motions makes it possible to do quite a lot. Have fun, dig a trench or dig a stump and you will see that you improve pretty quick, To see 300 hours to be proficient makes sense, but to be able to do most of you work, takes a lot less time. I have 55 ours and have done trenches and stumps galore, so just take it slow and stay safe and you'll be using the BH really well in no time.

What Ken said....when I say proficient, I mean I don’t have to think about it anymore, it’s second nature. And yes you will slam it around for awhile when you start out, that means your going to fast, lol.

I had a old woods 650 backhoe attachment. My 1710 with CB 65 is so much smoother. It is really fun to use.
It would be nice if it did two functions at once faster. I am always pleasantly surprised how much it can do.
