Paddy,
I think you can.
Did you read Larry's post I linked above? I don't think the pump is 1" longer, but then I didn't measure the difference in length since I knew for sure I would not have that problem. But Larry did in his post (I think), but read it for sure. If he can get it on his 354, you should be able to get it on your 454? And I know for sure that other 354 owners are doing the same mod. Those are 3 cylinders also.
It is really worth the time and effort, especially if gaining speed is what you are after, like I was. I would continue to pursue it further.

Paddy,
I asked Larry to take some measurements of the pump on his 354. Here's what he wrote:
"Rob,

The 320 pump body, plus the thickness of the mounting bolt head is 4-3/4" long. If he really only has 1" clearance between the starter and pump, He may have to remove the starter to get the pump in, but then may not be able to reinstall the starter?

I question the reported 1" clearance, because in order to remove the existing pump, there would have to be more than 1" to get the pump out past the length of the splined shaft that sticks out. Have him accurately check the actual clearance.
"

So it appears you probably have more than the estimated 1" or so.
Then there is also the possibility of removing the pump housing that houses both pumps to the engine. Install the pump to that and then install the assembly back to the motor. I think that could work too, but I have not taken that housing off the engine myself.

3RRL,

Just re-measured. This time with a tape measure! It was exactly 1". Not sure if I have a good eye because I'm an engineer or spent many years as a carpenter! I looked at larry's install. On the photo where he has the sizes of the 320, 316 and the 314, mine is 2.5"!

belive me, I wish I could up grade

In a previous thread, the question came up about what model my stock pump really was. I must admit that I never checked the model number on it. As a matter of fact, according to my manual it should have been a 312. So thought I'd throw that out here. I went by what Brad had posted at one time, thinking mine must be a 316 like his Kama 554.

Well, while working on the hydraulics last week, I got a close up of the worn label which was on the original pump. The only thing I could make out was a stamped "12" on it.
Does that mean it was -312 then? After all, that is what the manual said it had.

Also, I got a photo of the steering pump which appears to have a "10" stamped on it. That would mean the steering pump size being a -310.
Is that correct then?

I know Brad told me his stock pump was a -316 from calculations he did, but I was wondering if anyone else had a chance to see what their pumps really are and how they're labeled? What are they really?

I would say that your pump is a 312. This is the basic pump. We speced ours with 314s after I told the factory that we were putting loaders on all of our KM554s at that time and the 312 is not enough pump for the Koyker 195 loader. I may have a 316 pump or two left on the shelf, we stocked them for a while, they can oversupply the liftbox and cause the 3 point lift arms to drift up by themselves when there is no weight on them. this was more of an issue on the TS series than the KM series tractors. even changing to the 314 will give you about 15 percent more flow than a 312. This applies to rear mounted pump only.

Chip,

Paddy back! As you may recall, I have the KAMA 454. Been a while since this thread was started but I have the 312 pump. It is slow but...with the 3 cyc 45 hp engine I'm not sure how big a pump I can up grade too. Have you looked at what is the max pump the KAMA 454 will take?

By the way, the KAMA is going strong at 150 hrs. We are building a house and I've moved countless tri-axel's of material.

Hi guys, haven't chimed in for a while. Had to revive this thread. I am still dealing with the extra slow FEL. I was going to order a new 320 pump but saw they are now offering a CBN-325 pump that would bolt on. For anyone who has installed a 320 pump on a Kama 554 can you tell me how much room you still had between the starter and the pump? From the pictures it looks like there is a lot of room. I am thinking about adding a remote and this would be the pump I would tie into (mine has 3 pumps) because the Kama loader has a large tank behind the driver seat so there is plenty of fluid to keep things cool for running things like a splitter of log grapple.

I just noticed the E325 pump was a lower pressure pump, so the E320 will have to do.

Been considering a 320 pump for my Rhino 554- but would have to trim the front sheet metal and then repaint...

Since you mentioned the Kama 554...

Wondering how it Has held up- and if you are happy with it?

Held up great. I only have a little over 200 hrs on it though. No major failures. Just replaced all the rubber hoses that were getting pretty ugly.
