CC 1500 vs 2500 Series

The snowblower was easy to remove and install, the front of the tractor did not have to be elevated. I found the directions to be very good and had no problems.

The mower deck was easy to remove and install, the tractor did not have to be elevated.

I only used the wheel weights when I used the snowblower (I just picked up a set of suitcase weights with the bracket from ebay tho)

Not sure about the CC trunk when pulling a trailer. I did purchase a Brinly trunk from ebay, I have not mounted it yet tho. On my LT1320 I mounted a Rubber Maid box with two pieces of angle iron, total cost for that trunk was about 25.00

I wanted a 2544 but the dealer only had the 2542 in stock. I hurt my back with the walk behind snowblower and wanted a rider with a snowblower before the next storm hit. I remove the mower deck many times through out the year and didn't consider the weight difference in the decks at the time I was shopping, so I am lucky my dealer only had the 2542 in stock.

What part of the state are you located in? I live in Eastford.

I would definately go with a 2500 series machine if you want to do anything on top of cutting grass. It takes me about an hour to cut my ~1.5acres with the 44" deck on my 2544. IMHO, a 54" deck is too much to hang under a 1000 series machine. Plus, I would never do more than normal (easy) grass cutting with the hydro trans on the 1000's, if you want it to last more than a few seasons.
G/luck

I purchased a cc 2554 Dec '05 with the electric sleeve hitch. Now have about 13 hours on it which includes a couple mowings (2 acre yard), scraping a couple rock driveways, plowing a garden spot (twice), using a tow behind to spread fertilizer, a few other misc uses. Have loved every minute of the 13 hours. The shaft drive is everything I read. Didn't even consider one of the low end, belt drive models from the big box store (Lowes was still selling cc's at the time). I upgraded from a ' 96 Husqvarner 22 hp Kohler Command, 50 in deck. with 900+ hours...the tranny was simply worn out.
Go for the 2500 series, shaft drive. You will not regret it.

I have a '05 2544 with snow thrower that handled everything mother nature had to offer in southwestern CT and then some. I have a 150' drive that slopes 8 degrees top to bottom. I use wheel weights and chains. Neighbors with walk-behind blowers were very jealous. one even asked to use my Cub to do his.

Tricks to help install the blower - lube channels with axle grease, place housing on mini dollies (6" wide bought at HD) pull down on the quick attach bar as there must be locking teeth in the channel and it slides right on.

For the spring lawn expansion I just bought the Agrifab box scraper special order from Lowes ($188) and now deciding whether to go with the electic sleeve hitch on ebay or the manual MTD. Has anyone used the MTD fastattach on a 2500? Is mod required to fit over tranny fill and relase lever?

Love the cub 2544.

I see this same discussion happen over and over on this website....everyone wondering...what to buy. How much work will it do for what it costs etc? I would just suggest one thing for everyone....when you have work to do, and need to pick the correct tool for the job..in this case the lawn tractor or snowblower. You are investing a substantial amount of money on a piece of equipment (a couple thousand dollars is alot of money to me! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif). To get the work done and still protect your investment (your tractor or equipment) I would suggest not undersizing equipment. It is better to error on the upper side rather than the lower side. If you get something that is too light, too small, too underpowered...your investment will either wear out prematurely or you will get discouraged with it's performance and be forced to trade up (which will cost you more money than if you had bought the correct equipment the first time). If you pick the right piece of equipment the first time, you won't have to go back and buy another one for a long time. Of course, if you like buying tractors and equipment like me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, maybe you want to disregard this advise. My wife has caught on to my continual trading and dealing on equipment and it hasn't been easy to sneak anything new past her for several years now.
Good luck on the purchase...
