I finally have decided to get a CCM hydraulic top link for my DX40. I received it Friday and now have it installed. I can't wait to get some use out of it!! By the way, this is a 21-32" Cat 1 from CCM with 1/4" hoses.

Unfortunately it was BLUE! So I had to spend some time painting it. Hope the paint lasts as I was rushing to get it done. Thanks for all the past threads that have helped me get this done.

Here are the before shots.

Here are the shots after painting. I did use teflon tape but was extremely careful to keep it away from the top couple of threads.

Here are the rest of the pictures of it being installed and with the cylinder extended after installation. Oh, I forgot to mention that I did not install the orfices that I showed in one of the pictures. It doesn't seem like I need it after messing with it for only a couple of minutes. Also, I had to include a picture of my garden. :) The last picture is also a before picture of the top link. Let me know if you think I should do something different. Thanks.

Ray

Looks fabulous. My top link turned out to be grey so only my side link needed painting.

That teflon tape thread was really useful to me as well. The amount of stuff I've learned from TBN is quite amazing.

Nice job, Ray! I would not return that orifice too quickly. You might never need it since you have the quick-hitch adapter. I find it is a real aid when I hook up implements to be able to make my toplink creep out or in because I can feather the remote lever and have the orifice to slow movement. Since you will not be connecting/disconnecting your toplink on a regular basis, it might not be an issue. One thing for sure, I know you will love that toplink and how it stays right where you put it.

Thanks for the replies everyone! About the orifices...not sure you could see in the pictures but the one I bought is a 1/2" threads which would mean it would connect up near the quick connects. I think it would be better to replace with an 3/8" threaded orifice so I can put it right near the hydraulic cylinder.

Next project...work lights!

It doesn't really matter where you put the orifice in a hydraulic power line. It can be anywhere in the extend or retract side, no difference. Anytime fluid flows in a hydraulic system, it flows everywhere in the system and that makes selection of a location simple. Anywhere it fits is perfect.

What are the orifices that are being referred to?

The orifice is a male/female fitting that you put in line with the hose that has a small hole, less than 1/8 inch, in it to limit the speed of the fluid, therefore the speed of the cylinder. Makes it easier to have fine control over the position of the cylinder. Some folks put them in the lines going to the Backhoe swing cylinders so the right/left movement is not so jerky/fast while still having good speed on the other motions.
