There is a relationship between SA and overweight/obesity. I have a very close friend who underwent a "lap band" surgery to lose weight and the first thing the docs performed was a SA study. SA and obesity are a vicious circle with the extra weight carried in the neck area affecting your breathing while trying to have deep sleep. Since starting the CPAP machine and loosing some serious weight he is feeling great and full of energy. He has lost weight before and he thinks that the deeper sleep is giving him the most benefit this time around.

All that being said, I agree with most responses, if the patient is not complaining of sleeplessness or low energy where do the docs come up with the SA diagnosis? Maybe there are some tell tales that were determined by other tests or observations. The $6k price sounds outrageous to me. There are home kits you can rent for self testing/data recording in your own bed.

Depends on what you call cheap. CDL physicals here cost $100 and you have to do it every 2 years. Employer does not pay for this. NY CDL is good for 8 years. Cost to renew my combination CDL and Motorcycle license including required CDL endorsements cost about $200. Every 8 years total costs me about $600.

I renewed mine in 2010 and did not have to be tested for sleep apnea. Don't know why they are asking her to do that.

I take one perscription for blood pressure, that mandates me to a yearly physical ... rather than every other year.

The cost is about $100... I still occaasionally haul and deliver petroleum products, so you need to take the hazmat indorsement test when renewing the CDL..

Then there is the TWIC card you have to carry, thats about $150 every 5 years, it just goes on and on unfortunately ...

I suggest going to your own Doc, and have him fax the results to the bus co...

In New York state that too is the BIG ISSUE. IN April of 2010 I had my DOT physical, passed no problems but they issued me a 1 year card. Their answer to this #1 i refused to a sleep test, #2 i am over 50 years old! They had the nerve to tell me i had Sleep Apnea and must be tested, reason: My neck is large! They found out my temper is larger than my neck ! I am 6' 2" tall, weigh 240 lbs which is almost all muscle. Those clowns actually measured my neck with a cloth tape. Their comment really pi--ed me off! and i told them so.
' Federal Government has nothing better to do than harass people! I spoke to my family DR. He told me is is a bunch of B S and he would do the DOT physical and give me a 2year card. I see him about every 6 months so he knows me. My Company says they will not allow anyone but their DR's to perform the physicals. I asked them why ? DOT physicals are all supose to be the same where ever you go. I'm paying the bill so what do they care? My class "A" cost me $300, Hazmat recertification $5, Fed background check for Haz Mat $150, Whats another $100 bucks for a physical, company pays nothing for my licencing anyway. Really irratating and expensive to say the least ! Time will tell, Aprils 3 months away. . . .John

It must be a state thing how the physicals work.
In pa you have to carry the physical card with you the company usually wants a copy for their records but any MD can sign.

Wow that's high. HazMat background check is only $37.25 here. My renewal with the background check included will be $160.

Something must have triggered the test. I think I would go down that path an ask if everyone is taking the test?It would be the end of it if everyone took it or not. Its always important to turn the question back at the person asking, if you don't like the question.
