I have 2 new Hunter ceiling fan light combinations. We previously had Hampton Bay fan/light combos. We have dual switch 3-way wiring, and we could turn on the fan or lights separately from the top or bottom of the stairs. Now to turn the light on the fan’s switch needs to be on. The light switch will then turn the lights on and off but only if the fan switch is on.

Did you wire your prior fan or just inherited it when you moved into the house? Generally the way the fans come from the factory the motor power and the lighting wiring are all together. I've always had to separate the two if I want them switched separately. By doing that I've even been able to put a dimmer on the light without affecting the fan. Look it over carefully.

Typically the blue wire is for light and is wired direct to house 3 way wire. Enables light independent of fan. I have three I've wired this way as they are the ceiling light in these rooms. Dimmer on light and speed control switch both on wall no remote control. Bypassed radio control and wired fans direct.
