I'm currently with cingular and have had two samsungs in a row. The first one was a flip phone and I was very happy with it. I did one of those free upgrades after a year or so to another samsung flip that has a camera. It doesn't hold a charge very well and provides poor reception. Now my niece has a samsung slider type phone that she is really happy with so I'm thinking of one like this or the sony slider with the built in walkman. It might be nice while your out working to be able to listen to the radio.

Verizon is the only service that reaches my property and it is spotty at best. I've got a Motorola flip phone with extendable antenna. It looks and feels like a piece of junk but it has worked fine for about 2 years. Sound quality is terrible even in normal service areas but quite frankly, this seems true of every cell phone I've ever used.

My B-I-L (who lives next to my property) has one of those old, black, very simple Motorola flip phones and he swears by it in terms of durability but getting batteries for it is getting harder.

I wish someone made a good basic cell phone for MEN! I don't need a stinking camera, video games or pop music ring tones. Just a phone. Built like a tank. And I'd be willing to carry a bigger one if that's what it took to get sound quality better than the Sears walkie-talkies I got for Christmas when I was 6.

I'm with Sprint and have a Sanyo and it has been quite durable, as I beat and bang it around and it is scratched to pieces but it has held up. My wife has a LG and she doesn't like it nearly as much as her Sanyo, but then again that particular Sanyo wouldn't hold up to driving her Explorer over it . My dad is on our plan as well and has a Sanyo but keeps banging it against the car scratching it. So he's looking into getting the Sanyo 7050 (I think) which is one engineered to military specs with no frills (camera, mp3 player, etc.). My daughter has the Razor and it has the mp3 player on it with the camera, but the battery doesn't last very long. I'm getting ready to upgrade and I'm still trying to decide which way to go.

I'm with N80 on this, just want a phone that works, don't want camera, music, movies, ringtones, or any other frills. I do like the bluetooth, seems that everytime I get both hands full, the phone rings and since I hear better in my left ear and my left shoulder is junk, the hands free is almost a must. That opens up another mess, had three of them before I got one that worked on both ends and is comfortable to wear.

I've gotten the best reception from plain little Nokias. Model 2128i is my latest (Verizon). I'va also had good performance from similar Nokia models with Cingular. No camera, no internet. I don't think that Verizon carries that model anymore, though.

Again its what works in you area

I have a basic nextel i205 (free) works on call phone is sprint digital and I get nextel service at my cabin in the boonies but no sprint service.
I've watched the sprint phone one day on the way home and sprint seems to run the interstates so far.
I was going to up grade to new phone but till it works in the boonies like my old one I'm sticking with the tried and true till they turn it off.
