Cell Tower

180ft istnt all that tall as far as cell towers are concerned.
The tower is not ment to serve far off areas, but a local area.
Not sure what schools have to do with this issue so we will ignore that.

You may find your never win if there isnt any city/zoning issue in place before the tower goes up. What I would do is look around, Is there a better place to put it? How about up on the water tower at the grain silo, Some place that already exsist. Dont let them tell you no, make them reexamine moing the tower.

Our town thought about putting it on their water tower but it was a new water tower and the builders told them if they put anything up there it would void their warranty so that scraped that plan. It would be nice to be able to use existing buildings for the towers antennas.

You probably can't stop the tower, but you can encourage the townsfolk to think about what will happen to the tower when it is no longer needed and is abandoned. Yes, I know, cell phones will be around forever, but is that Analog or Digital service? Or, maybe Satellite Analog? Or, and we know its coming someday--Satellite Digital?

Can AT&T just abandon the tower and walk away if its not profitable? Do they have to remove the tower?

That is whay they make tractors and chains for/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

On that same note. A guy and his kid were arrested last year after they hooked a chain to the bottom of the Sherrifs tower and ripped it down with their truck.

Since it's a celular carrier and tower, there isn't a thing state or local government has to say aboutit, FCC rules preempt all local control. Save yourself a lot of time and greif and accept the reality there will be a tower across the road.
If I could get one on my land I'd love it.

AT $900 a month plus free cell phone service I'd like to put in for about a dozen of them. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'm not sure if this is entirely true. I lived the past 17 years in suburban Washington DC (sniper county, MD), and our community of 30,000 had restrictions on towers/antennas. Had cell service for years with C&P/Bell Atlantic/Verizon and could never get a good signal at our house. Every time I complained, I was told they couldn't put a tower near us due to community restrictions. One would think they'd place a tower if they could do so, after all those years and poor reception in our populous area. There were even people willing to accept the tower on their property, but no go.

Maybe it was just too much procedural hassle for them to go ahead and do it, not sure.

I chose to live out in the country so I can look up at the stars at nite. I think it would be a bit distracting to have those bright white strobes flashing all nite.

That is why those bright white strobes can be turned to nice red glowing lights at night. They do that with all of the towers around us. They are bright white during the day so planes can see them easier then they turn to red at night so they don't bother the people.
