Cement or concrete

For a garage slab I don't think I would go with the fiber glass. When floating it rises and it will show on the finished surface. It's not a big deal but, I like a smooth polished surface.

to deal with this you usually just flame the surface with a weedburner within a few days. melts all the fiberglass twigs sticking up and youll never know they where there.

Exactly. And, my concrete contractor said that the fibers would actually help prevent spalling as well.

I noticed on a bag of cement that it said "not for concrete". Can anyone explain what the difference is between cement for concrete and that for brick laying? I want to build a small (1m sq) slab and was wondering if I could use the same cement for slab and brick laying.

Here is a product that was originally created by University of Mich.
Helix

Excerpt from about us:
Helix are toothpick-sized, pieces of twisted wire with a triangular cross section, developed at the University of Michigan in 1997 then licensed and commercialized by Polytorx LLC. With its screw-like shape, Helix works by locking into concrete like a corkscrew in a cork and even very low dosages of Helix result in dramatic performance improvements for all uses of concrete. Helix is now used in thousands of applications and sold in 10 countries.

I had a 24 x 28 slab poured in 03 for my garage. No rebar or wire mesh only fiberglass mixed with concrete. No cracks after 5 years and it is driven on everyday.:)

My 24X36 garage floor is this fiberglass/concrete mix. No rebar.

No cracks except for the ones that are suppose to be there.

The 'fuzzy look' went away within a few days use.
