Certificate of Origin

I got a COO with my tractor, well I should say Harrisburg,Pa. got it because of the loan.

We covered this in other threads but it's something that may be pertinent here as well.
Once a vehicle becomes registered, it's no longer covered on a homeowners or farm policy. This may apply to tractors.

My tractors and "stuff" are listed with my ins. co (State Farm) as being equipment to "maintain the resident premises" and are covered on my homeowners against theft, fire...
PA now requires ATV's and UTV's to be registered, titled (with plates). Once that happened, my RTV and the ATV I had listed as also to "maintain the resident premises" was no longer valid and not covered against theft, fire... If I put a plate on my tractor, it too would be dropped from homeowners and I would need to get a separate policy.

My Certificate of Origin arrived a couple of days ago. Took about 14 days to go from asking to receiving. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mine came last week, a month after I made the purchase and it came unsolicited. Somewhat surprising considering I had to beg the dealer for the owners manual which arrived 2.5 weeks after purchase.

Why would you need license plates to operate these on your own private land,
What purpose does this serve?

What next state police & the county sheriff
crusing all over your property and passing out tickets?

I don't believe that they are required when they are used exclusively on you own private land, but would be required when you leave your land and go onto the land of others or the public roads. I know that is how it is done in CT. I know that the people that travel the back woods around my home don't have them registered, but I have also seen them stopped by the State Police and the bikes have been towed away. The drivers are charged with driving unregistered and uninsured vehicles when they get caught. The funny thing is they try to run many times and if there is more than one car in the area, they just wait at both ends of the trail. They know that they have to come out one end or the other.

If the ATV is used solely on your property, it still requires registration. Only exceptions to not have to get registered are for business or farm use only (neither of which applies to me).
So, mine are registered and needed new insurance. I did read more detail and found that liability insurance isn't required if it is solely used on owners property (but still, my ins. co. dropped it off my homeowners).

ATVs and snowmobiles used only on the owner’s land now require registration. ATV owners will be provided a free, one-time registration with no expiration, and a registration plate to be affixed to the ATV. Snowmobile owners operating on their own lands will receive a free, one-time registration sticker.

What is the purpose of a license plate for this?

Wonder if the Insurance Compaines had a hand in getting such laws passed so they now have an excuse not to insure them ??????

Why a plate for use on your own land?
I don't know... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Are Insurance companies in on it?
I don't know... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've had my RTV for over 6 months now. My insurance company still doesn't know how to insure it.
