Hello All,
I currently have a chain harrow, which is 6 x6 foot, but I need to be able to lift it, in order to clean it out and also get accross roads. The Dealer here in my town wants like $900.00 for a new harrow and boom, which seems very high to me. Is there anywhere cheaper that anyone knows of to just buy a boom? Do I need the entire combo if I already have the chain?
Please let me know what you thin and Thanks everyone in advance,
Rick

You can buy a low cost 3ph boom for around $80. Shackle your chain harrow to the back of the tractor/3ph so it can be pulled in forward direction, and shackle the back of the harrow to the end of the boom. When you lift the boom, it lifts the rear of the harrow off the ground to travel in reverse.

This is my 8x8 chain harrow, comprised of four 4x4 sections pulled by one 8" pipe. I added 3 additional sections of pipe to the OE pull bar, effectively surrounding the actual harrow in a frame. The harrow attaches to the 3 new sides with removeable links. Now the boom pole lifts the frame itself, not the harrow sections. Note also the six foot (removeable) extension to the boom pole

Mine is very simular to greg's except that I didn't extend the boom or put anything on the sides. Just a 3" pipe on the front and some 2"x2" square tube in back. I've got a hyd. top link so it's no problem to raise. I bought the boom for $35 at an auction.

I also think that some places like TSC, or Northern Hydraulics may sell the harrow lift separately. I've got to look into getting one for mine, or a 3pt boom pole.

I have seen some angle iron frames and for a 6ft long harrow you might be able to scrounge up an old bed frame.
I have found bed frame iron to be TOUGH to drill, so now I only blow holes in it with a torch.

Thank You all,
So I will buy a boom pole, how long would you recommend? Also, if I make a frame, how many points of attachment should I have to the harrow and how do you attach?
Thanks again all

Most Cat 1 boom poles are six footers, and I'm pretty sure your Jinma has a Cat 1 rear lift. Since the frame on mine means I'm lifting a 9 foot rectangle, that's too short. Hence my six foot boom pole extension.

There are C-shaped pieces of rebar welded to the inside of the frame. I connect the harrow sections to them with removable links. Alternatively, you can use eye bolts instead of rebar, repair links instead of removable links

Thank You greg, did you make the extension yourself, or is this something I could purchase as well, I like the way your looks

It's of my own design, but I'm not a welder. I paid a machine shop to make it for me. The farm store pole had a plastic cap on the end, ostensibly to keep out water. I removed the cap, inserted a short piece of solid steel bar, welded it in place. Solid is important. I used a tube on the first attempt - and tore it up within weeks. Tube lacked rigidity and eventually tore. The extension itself is a square steel tube the same gauge and dimensions as the pole. It slips over the bar and gets pinned in place. Lifting eyes were welded to the extension. You material costs should be similar to mine, labor depends upon who provides it. But - counting the failed tube version - I think my extension pretty much doubled the cost of the boom pole. I didn't look up the receipts, but I think the end product was probably in the neighborhood of $150.

Another approach is a cheap boom pole and some chain.
