chain link fence install in the sand

Fixed-knot woven wire fencing with good posts will better a chain link fence, and is cheaper. There's a video on YouTube with a small 4x4 truck pushing through a chain link fence but not a fixed-knot woven wire fence.

No idea what I'd do with sandy soils. Maybe a reverse situation than I have, which is heavy, clay soils. I used some sandy/gravely material (sloughs off from the hillside- get it for free from the neighbor) and did alternate layers of that material and native soils, hand packing (did about 100 of them [2,100 linear feet of fencing]- glad I went with this fencing, as it requires less line posts- I went suggested max line post spacing of 20' and it's perfectly fine). Maybe heavy/clay-ish soil layered and packed in would perform the same way. The corner posts (I did same height and depth, but 6"-8" posts) utilize H-bracing, and it's THIS that provides the fence with it's real strength. Line posts really don't do a lot other than hold the fence up: impact and stretch will be spread along the line posts to the corner posts, but it's the corners that will carry the bulk of the force, which is why it's essential to get these right).

I'd contact fencing manufacturers and consult.

Again just to update, the fence is just about done, took 3 weeks away from work to get some things done on my property, knowing what I know now I think I could have gotten it done in 10 days easily but the sun was either absolutely blistering hot or it rained cats and dogs, I worked in both of them to the best of my ability.

I prob had 2 weeks into the fence. Concreted all posts, people told me I couldnt do it myself, I did it myself with the exception of some of the trenching, I wanted it buried a few inches, I hired some locals that needed a few bucks for beer.

Everyone that sees it cant believe I did it myself and so quick, its straight as an arrow when looking down it from the end, the land is not level though so there are some elevation changes within the fence line itself.

All in all I will say it is EXTREMELY easy project, zero complicated, definitely not overly labor intensive. I am glad its done though with the exception of one gate that I am still working on making since too pay someone to pre fab is a ridiculous price.

I really like how you have it cleared of everything along the fence line. Tress love to drop branches on a fence. I think it's a game that they play!!! My neighbor was in a rush to get his land fenced and didn't clear all of the trees that he should have, and in the Spring, I went over there and counted over 20 areas that the fence was damaged from branches falling off of trees. In some areas, the fence was completely destroyed!!!

So how deep did you put the posts, and how many bags of concrete per hole?

Thanks, I wanted to be able to drive the outside of the property and have room to haul stuff. I already had an accident with the tractor hauling some steel that was long and came down onto the fence, twisted the top rail pretty badly, easy though to change out since it was nearer to one end. I still have one gate to finish, I have to pick up the pipe this weekend and am waiting for some hardware.

It will be real nice when its all closed up with a lock on the gates, at this point its still open to anyone

I cant tell you exact depth, cant remember the figures since the fence was buried a few inches.( its written downs somewhere ) I used a 50LB for end posts and half a bag per line posts. Gate posts I used 2 bags per

The mention of sand reminded me of a particularly sandy spot we hit while fencing in my son's back yard. The posts went in so easily that a few were driven deeper than intended. I think I pulled one or two up and moved them over to firmer soil.
