BamaRob, Once the ground feezes and then becomes snow covered the rubber tire has nothing to bit into thus the need for chains. Also some time when you break thru the frost and into the mud it helps to get back up over that frozen edge.

Rohn will agree, never needed chains on the B2400 and we get a lot of snow up here. But to be honest i am plowing on pavement and have never needed them with this tractor, but my old Ford 2 n had them and on that tractor they were a must.
When I bought the bota dealer told me I would not need them but I do a lillte logging and I need them. The driveway gets to be solid ice and up hill and I can not get ues to using 4 wh drive sometimes I even forget that I got it.
