no, wait until they send the new saw......take your old clapped out super xl .....put it in the box and send it back to them...

then take the saw that runs funny back to the store in which you bought it and get your money back...

there, free saw!;):D

just kidding, hats off to homelite, usually you hear of customer service being crap.....

edit: OR sell the brand new saw and then go buy a stihl and have very little in it....

I bought chaps and helmet with my Stihl 048 back in the late 90's. I THINK I bought the saw just before Hurricane Floyd came to town. Luckily Floyd did not leave me a mess but I helped out family clean up with the saw. Then in 2000 we bought our land and the saw, chaps, and helmet started getting used while they gave me a workout. :D

Over the years I have had the saw touch the chaps. Small saplings hit the helmet with enough force to make me see stars. The helmet and face guard has saved my face from chips as well as saplings and limbs swatting at my face.

I have WADED deep into black berry patches, briars and thickets with the Stihl chainsaw chaps. The chaps really help in the thickets. Best thing to wear.

The chaps and helmet are looking a bit used after 10 years. The chaps have oil stains on them. A few small tears in the fabric. The helmet face guard is metal and some what rusted. I had to glue on one of the pads for the ear muffs. The knob to adjust he helmet head band broke off years ago but I can still get it to work as needed. :D

Having said all of that the safety stuff has held up very well over the years. And it has saved me a few times. Not so much from getting cut with the saw but from getting banged up. I have had the chain pulled off the bar several times when cutting tensioned wood. The chaps kept the stinging down when the chain whacked my legs.:D

I have more than gotten my money out of the chaps and helmet. $100 was cheap. And the equipment still has years worth of life left. I hope I do as well and the will help keep it so! :D:D:D:D

Later,
Dan

Well, I got the replacement chaps today. I expect the saw will not be far behind.

i'll be buying a pair of chaps before my next outing. today i was out with my hs-80 hedge trimmer (30" double blade) getting a jump start on the blackberry vines since now is about the best time to get them before they start going crazy. i was doing fine and after about an hour of clearing along the driveway and then an overgrown trail i was in the groove swinging away back and forth across the trail and pulled the trimmer in a bit closer to my body to get some brush close to my feet, i swept it across the front of my body and right into my left thigh, luckily i was already off the trigger and it was slowing down. my jeans slowed it almost to a stop but not before it grabbed my thigh. let me tell you those things don't cut skin, they tear it.. i'll be ok and it's not deep but sure got my heart pumping.. something else i should warn about - make sure your check the gas cap often. mine rattled loose enough to let gas seep out all over the front of my shirt and jeans before i realized the gas smell was just too strong for everything to be running "normal". luckily i don't smoke because i can just see lighting up during a break and watching myself go up in flames!

be careful out there.

You can be on one of those "Infomertials" as a testimonial to the dangers of working without chaps. I'm glad that you are ok.

Just got the new chainsaw. The forecast is for rain for the next four days. Guess I'll have to wait to do a performance check.
Now, I need to drain the oil and gas out of the bad one and send it back. They asked if I would send the chaps to them as well. I'm sure they do want to see if I'm telling the truth, and I believe that they want to see what is wrong with the defective saw.
But, in these sue-happy days, I suspect their lawyers' main motivation is to get the evidence out of my hands and into theirs.
That's okay. I'm not a sue-happy guy. They've replaced the stuff, and that's all I wanted.
