MAXX; I put my scabbard inside the arm for the loader and painted the boards green. It is neat and out of the way.

Do you know how much Deere could sell something like that for? I bet a lot. Nice tight fit. How is it attached?

It so happens I'm in the process of building a chainsaw carrier for my JD 790. However, it's going to attach to the right side loader frame (the horizontal square tube that bolts to the side of the engine). So, if you don't have a loader, then it won't be of much help to you. If you have the loader, let me know and I can get you a "sneak" pic of it before it's finished so you can see if it might be something you want to duplicate.

Thanks beenthere; Yes that green paint really hides it well.

JD 4520; look carefully at picture # 1. You see a small block of wood which is screwed into the scabbard holding it in place. also painted GREEN

Ok, I'm gonna show you one pic for a sneak preview! Obviously it hasn't been prepped for paint yet. If you want more details, you'll have to wait until I get it finished up, painted green, and then I'll do a thread with more pic's. But, really you can look at it and figure it out, this ain't rocket science here!! The beauty of mounting it to the frame for the loader and not the loader mast is that when I dismount my loader, my chainsaw carrier and chain bucket will still be on the tractor. Btw, if you want some detail on the chain bucket, I did a separate thread on it with more pic's. You should be able to search and find it, I think it's in the "Customization" folder.

And looks great. A couple more pics of the scabbard without the FEL and of the inside of the square tube. Must be lined with something for the bar/chain to rest.
thanks for the idea....

That pic was taken when I was checking the "fit" after tack welding it. Don't have anymore pic's here at the house. Maybe next weekend I will get some more pic's when I get back to where my tractor is (70 miles away). I'm hoping to get it finished up the week after Christmas as I am off of work that week and will have time to work on it.

The 2x4 metal tube is lined. I used a Craftsman chainsaw blade protector (made of a tough plastic or nylon) for the blade to slide into, and then there are some 3/8" plywood strips cut to fit to take up the rest of the space inside the metal tube. I will detail all that when I do a thread on it.
