Change Bearings on K-Series EFCG Flail Mower Blade Axle

I blew a bearing on 155 K-Series flail mower. It looks the bearing collar (is that what it is called?) for the drive side bearing is stuck on the shaft but I don't know what I am looking at. The bearing was fragmented and I have got the replacement bearing.

I have measured the bearing and the bit stuck on the axle shaft is the same size as a similar part in the new bearing.

I have taken an end on photo of the drive side of the axle. Any help / advice will be gratefully received as I don't have a clue!

There are a few ways.

Take a grinder/dremel tool with a cutting wheel and cut parallel to the shaft part way through that inner bearing race. Then take a cold chisel and hammer drive it into that cut and it will split bearing race and then it will pull off easily.

If you can get a gear/bearing puller on it that would work but it doesn’t look like you have room to do that.

If you have a cutting torch you can cut the race perpendicular to the shaft, but do without damaging rotor shaft. Then when cut through it will come off.

What brand of flail shredder is this?

What is the cutting width?

How many hammer knives are mounted on the flail shredder rotor?

Dremel, cutting wheel and chisel is what I have used to remove inner races. Take your time with the cutting wheel, they don't like to be pushed. Any side pressure will make them break.

Another way is to weld something to the race that you can then grab with a puller that pushes against the shaft. You can try the cutting wheel first and then welding something to pull against if that doesn't work.

The mower is a KI-EFGC-125 Flail mower.

Thanks for your advice. I have successfully removed the bearing race. I used the 2 holes in the race to use a drill punch and hammer to rotate the race. I cut 2 slots in the race where it protruded from the end of the blade axle. I then used a bearing pulley to get it off.

Hi Willy, that's the one. I have got to put the new bearings on Tuesday. I am waiting on the seals.
