JD 855
Hello everyone,

I am a new member of this forum. A good friend of mine loaned me his JD 855 4x4 to do some earth work and digging 2 small ponds. Before he takes it back, I would like to change the engine oil but have no idea how to do it since it does not come with an owners manual. I have been searching on YouTube with no luck. I am desparate to get some help. I would love to get any leads as to how to change the engine oil (web article, youtube, ect.). Thank you very much.

my email is:

I would offer him some cash or get him a case of beer, or something else he may like instead of changing his oil.

I for one would not want someone messing with my engine.

Agreed, it is more appropriate, unless you are his car mechanic or similar. :)

That said, he might not take the cash, so the case of cold ones is good, as would a gallon of JD brand oil and a JD filter for that machine.

I agree with the posts. People are very particular about their tractors (has to be the preferred brand of oil, the right filter, done at the right time). I fear you'd return the tractor and mention you changed the oil and get a very tense smile in return, with a comment like "you did!?!"

A 24 of beer would be the answer:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I have thought of that "cold drink" offer but he does not drink. I guess offer him a 5 gal bucket of oil and a gift cert to tractor supply will do.

I have to agree with everyone else. I don't take my stuff to the shop because I am afraid they will not do it the way I like (It's not because I am to cheap to pay them ). Offer to help him do it and buy the supplies to do it. I would be willing to be he would appreciate the offer to help more than you doing it without his approval.

Gift certificate - Final answer!

Although I've never asked, I'm sure JD offers gift certificates too.

There is a JD dealership 20 mil north of here. I can certainly ask...:)

Don't do anything to his tractor! Even if something breaks, ask first, before putting a wrench to it.

Ask his wife on the sly; what's the best way to repay him for use of the tractor?

Gift card sounds like the best idea.
