Change of Seasons

[QUOTE=20 20 Love winter up here, but the older the bones get the harder it is on them. Still like the change of seasons though, but hate the increase in taxes" :)

I've notice my bones starting to talk back last couple of years...best relief, feed the woodstove another chunk of oak/maple to warm the bones.

Taxes..hope you folks don't have view tax as we have..ouch. :(

My biggest problem with winter is the trees lose all their leaves and there is very little green. It just gets brown and the trees all look bare. It only takes a couple of months of that for me to yearn for spring and the return of color. Of course, we don't have much of a winter. We have a few cold fronts that may bring a little snow, but they are gone quickly. Heck, our ground doesn't even freeze much deeper than the first couple of inches. Most of you would just say we had a long fall and no winter.:D

I like the different seasons. If it was the same season all the time I would get bored with it. As much as I like the different seasons, winter is my escape from them. I like the cold better than the heat. I don't take heat and humidity well at all. Additionally, during winter every allergen producing plant dies and me and my allergies get a reprieve. One of my favorite things to do is watch it snow at night. I like to watch it snow at any time, but it is just cool to watch it at night. If that sounds crazy then I guess I'm crazy! :D

I wouldn't mind winter here except that ours lasts from Nov. to April., and it feels like and army marches in and you fight it until april. If you get a 3' dump overnight, you get to: 1) Get out the big toys and try to clear to the road, then help the neighbors with theirs. 2) Sidewalks and decks with the smaller 30" snowblower, then 3) Check the roofs and shovel them as well. If you only get 6" every couple of days, you can clear the driveway and sidewalks each time, decks and roofs as needed.(this assumes the toys don't break down or fail to start...) I just replaced a deck the snow had collapsed. I am fortunate to have the tools and ability to do all this myself, but many here do not, and it is not possible to just sit and watch an elderly person in their 70's and 80's try to clear their drives and walks with a shovel. I would like to find an area that has a month or so of winter, and 3-5 months of summer. (lower taxes wouldn't hurt either.) Pennsylvania and northern Va. are starting to look good!

I love the distinct seasons. Each creates its own anticipation and the cycle of renewal is refreshing. Seems like each year the spring gets shorter and we jump right into summer.

Fall is the best, beauty, the harvest, nice temps, still decent daylight hours, no bugs and less allergies.

It's a comin......
